Make sure you pay for parking before leaving the place as you'll have to pay again if you go back in to pay.. Only £2 for all day though so it's not worth trying to getaway with it! Just register your number and make sure you get it right otherwise you'll get a fine. Having said all this about car parking it was a lovely place to visit. We stayed there five hours, walked about 5 miles total, visiting the six hides and seeing quite a lot of birds close up. The highlights were a beautiful goldeneye,
two bullfinches chasing each other through the brambles and two kingfishers, one close to the hide.Several nuthatches and three hares scampering across the open fields. We saw 41 species of bird in total. The centre is run by the local Wildlife Trust has a small shop, gallery, outside wildbird viewing area and toilets. There is a a lovely mural in the ladies toilets (see in photos below)

Car parking costs £2 for a full day. Your registration number is recorded on arrival and again on departure. There is a single machine where you enter our registration number and pay the £2 - cash only, no change given. From the car park there are a couple of walks. the blue walk being suitable for wheelchair users. Other than by visiting the various hides which are dotted around the lake, walkers see over little of the lake, and even the ides when we went (March) there was very little bird life to be seen. Alongside the walk are various animals made of wooden logs - certainly enough to keep children entertained. There is also a visitor centre where a very friendly young lady gave us directions to somewhere good to have a meal. The walk took us about 45 minutes

My husband visits with his camera on a regular basis to photograph the wildfowl. The visitor centre and hides are well maintained with extension plans in place. Great woodland walks with bird feeding areas. Car park fees always very reasonable with revenue going to fund the centre. Yearly pass available or number plate recognition in place.

In comparison with the nearby Martin Mere, this reserve is quiet and far more suited to walkers and birdwatchers. There are interesting birds on the water (spot the kingfisher !) and paths are good for wheelchairs. £2 for parking (read the signs carefully) is the only charge and there are no noisy shops, cafes or playgrounds. Even if you are not a birder, it's a great walk.
