We were here for a birthday breakfast on a busy Saturday. The food was great with all eight meals and drinks arriving at the same time and piping hot.. The staff were friendly and particularly the manageress who was happy to allow us to bring in our own birthday cake and provided the cake knife, the silver dish for it and lit the candles for us. We thoroughly recommend this tea shop. Do visit, you will enjoy yourself

We are fairly regular customers here and usually enjoy visiting but felt something wasn't quite right today. Although a new menu layout for us, we found our usual favourites and when the food came after a bit of a wait it was plentiful and good. No problem there then...
Wish we could say the same about the staff & service. It appeared most of the waiting staff were different and certainly not as friendly and courteous as they usually are. They didn't even seem to be on good terms with each other! I noticed a customer going to one waitress & was clearly querying something. The girl was all smiles to the lady's face but when she turned to go back to her table, the waitress' face was so very rude! Appalling.
There was a more mature lady (new manager perhaps?) working but she didn't seem impressed with her young staff either nor was she customer friendly.
All looked really bad to us. A very strange, uncomfortable, atmosphere. So much so, we decided not to have tea & cake after our meal - as per usual - but drove further south to another place where all the staff were absolutely delightful.

We enjoyed a lovely Mothers day lunch. The oven roasted chicken supreme was delicious. The huge cream meringue was so good. Being mothers day it was very busy. Staff were all very friendly. We will be back very soon.

As mentioned in other reviews, the service has declined quite a bit. We arrived mid afternoon and were told the kitchen was closed and could only have cake and coffee. As we had two people in the group who can’t eat sugar, we asked if we could have anything savoury like the quiche that was in the board or some bread and butter. The waitress did try but it seems management response was simply: kitchen is closed, no.

The restaurant was open for another hour and yet they refused serving anything savoury. I understand if the kitchen is closed there couldn’t be any elaborate dishes or even a panini, but a slice of already made cold quiche or bread could easily have provided.

Some people is hospitality business have yet to learn putting customers first.

We visited here this afternoon. They had a great selection of plants, clothes and other bits and pieces. The tearoom was a very pleasant surprise. The cappuccino was well prepared and delicious. They even had a Christmas tree shape on top. There was a good selection of desserts and cakes, and from the menu, they also had a good lunch selection. I couldn’t resist having the Clootie dumpling, a childhood favourite. It did not disappoint. They obviously put a lot of thought into everything they do.
