We stopped off here for a couple of cold drinks - a lovely spot overlooking the river, with friendly staff. As there's not much tourism in Batti, this is a good choice for food or drink. I imagine it would be a great place to stay.

We stayed two nights, which was about all that was needed to exhaust the sights of Batticaloa. The hotel staff was very friendly and welcoming, including the owners who were very much in evidence. The pool is fantastic and at weekends the hotel lets it be used by local children having swimming lessons. The room was basic but comfortable and very clean. Lots of wildlife, including crocodiles in the lagoon and Australian eagles in a shabby next right above the hotel. One downside: some mornings the nearby Hindu temple blasts out not very religious sounding music - at 5.45! Easy access to the limited attractions of Batti via the nearby bridge, walkable or plentiful tuktuks. Oh yes, the beach - a huge expanse of sand about a 15 minute walk from the hotel through side streets. And definitely take up the opportunity of a boat trip up the lagoon to the colonial lighthouse - we saw so much birdlife, including a fish eagle snagging a beauty in the middle of the lagoon.

we stayed 5 days (2 more than planed). the location is perfect in a well kept, parkstyle garden, full of nice flowers and plants. the pool is nice, clean and good for a swimm after the heat in town. staff is friendly and are helpful to find solutions, if there are special whishes. we had an a/c room - big, confortable and very clean. the food is tasty but it takes an our after the order to have it on the table. just the time to drink a cool beer or a gin tonic at the bar!

I called in and asked if they serve Full English breakfast.
The roast hard... eggs were fine. Sausages were almost inedible.
Very bad service. Waiting staff language skills and customer service skills are appalling.
Didn't have change for Rs. 5000.00.
Didn't accept American express.

Dear Sir

Thank you for your review. It is very unfortunate that you didn’t enjoy your stay at our resort. As we are in the east coast of Sri Lanka we rarely get request for “English Breakfast”. It may be due to the prudent knowledge of the seasoned travellers and foreigners that the speciality of places like us will be local cuisine. As we try to satisfy all our customers and if requested for an “English Breakfast” the best we can do is to fry the egg and the only type (no choices available in Batticaloa) of sausages that is sold in the local supermarket.
It is very unfortunate that you were only able to publish a photo of the lane that leads up to the resort and not the 10 acre garden with tall trees and flowers, lagoon front, magnificent sunset, the organic vegetable garden, the biogas plant or the swimming pool that everyone speaks as highlight of their stay. These are few things that justify our room price.
We understand that the staffs are not eloquent in English language but we rarely get complains from our other customers that there is a communication breakdown. I’m sure our waiting staffs were able to articulate all your requests and serve your every need. Very sorry if they were unable to keep up a conversation going.
We have made arrangements to accept AMEX from next month onwards.

Best Regards

A retro style hotel, a little tired around the edges but with some good features. A lovely pool and delicious food are the highlights. The menu is very extensive and flexible. Low points are the restricted WiFi - only available in the main building and restaurant area and in our case a less than spotless shower room. However, the bedroom was clean, spacious and the bed comfortable.
This is a safe option when choosing a hotel in Batti. It is well run and the staff are delightful but it is just a little unexciting and lacking character.
We were only there for one night so this review is based on one evening, night and breakfast.
