Too expensive

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Feb 2016via mobile
This hotel isn't close to the Mékong river, but the garden is quiet. The room are too expensive and really basic. We took 2 Rooms: one without bath room and an other one with private bath room. The room without bath room had just 2 beds and nothing else, so for a "lodge" it's just incredible! The électricity In The room was dangerous. And the public bath room is at the opposite of The room...for that we paid 70000 kips! And unfortunately all The hostel are full because of The boudhists fest.

We went to Tha Khaek travel lodge to find advice and tip about the loop.
Well the motobike guy mister Ku is very nice and explain everythink we needed to know but he is not from this guest house and you don't need to stay in the guesthouse to rent motorbike.
About the lodge the only good thing is the garden.
The room are not very clean and need to be refresh. Shower and bathroom are horrible, you don't wanna take a shower in it. And it's not that cheap, we found better quality for this price in Vientiane and Luang Prabang.
The food is not good. The bread taste like soap and they were ants into everyone muesly.
The staff is not friendly and don't care about you.

This was a good guesthouse before and after we did the loop. The night before we checked out 'the loop logbook' in which you can find stories and tips on the loop. There's also a motorbike rental place (we didn't rent our bikes here). The staff isn't enthousiastic AT ALL, the rooms are very basic. However, we got a nice bed, a hot shower and it was quiet at night. That's all we really needed. There's also a nice garden to hang out during the day.

Over all Travel Lodge is a nice guesthouse to hang out and meet other travellers. Sadly it is really loosing its charm. Dirty, old bathrooms, dormbeds are extremely uncomfortable and the food also needs improvement!!!

We enjoyed our stay here but the best way to give some honest feedback is to split it into 2 sections...
Good: ambiance , travellers chatting, staff are great, food is great. Also beds are comfortable, bedding is clean. In fact it is the most comfortable bed we've had in Laos. The staff were very helpful, friendly.
Things that need improving...Good size rooms, but need a really good clean and a bit of maintenance. Our bathroom was pretty grubby and the first room we had had no toilet seat. The hot shower is barely hot. (Better hot water units?) Not the end of the world but simple things to make this place really good.

Basic rooms at reasonable rates. Lots of other travellers to socialize with. Great information on how to arrange a motorbike ride in the beautiful sorrounding areas (as described in the lonely planet guide).
While the rest of Tha Khaek can seem a bit sleepy and empty (though beautiful and charming in a roughed up fashion), this place is always alive.
