We stayed an overnight here at the start of the season and were the only guests. We were given a free upgrade to a suite of rooms with a fantastic balcony view of the mountains. The room was spotless and the wifi OK but a little slow. The cafe was not open as it was start of the season but the receptionist did offer to make us some snacks if needed. We had planned to barbecue anyway so found the picnic area with views of the mountains very pleasant.

Room Tip: If you are going early in the season check that the cafe/restaurant will serve food.

We stayed here one night before setting out on a 5-day ski tour in the park. Its main selling point is that the next morning you are at the trailhead, no more driving required. Room was a good size (we got the largest room) for staging our gear and packing our backpacks. However the room was over the bar which blared thumping music until well after we'd gone to bed. Did not see any other skiers staying there, only lots of snowmobilers. Food was pricey and so-so. Breakfast better than dinner. St Octave is a ghost town with an interesting back story and we enjoyed a walk among the remaining buildings and down the roadway with hand-lettered historical markers - here was the first mass celebrated, here perished a family in the fire. There's a great view of the snowy mountains in the distance which adds to the excitement of heading off on a backpacking trip because you can see your destination.

In contrast to other writers, we found the room, while simple, was newly renovated and clean. Services were limited; no internet it is true, but that is the case in many places in the Gaspe, and the manager told us it is expected soon. There is a new indoor swimming pool, but we didn't try it out. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There was a limited menu, but the quality was more than adequate. Breakfast, which was included, had fresh fruit, cereal, toast, yogurt etc.

Talking about false advertisement! We do not recommend this place unless you want to throw money out the window... You would definitely get a "sticker choc" from the total lack of service: no phone, no TV and no internet. Can you imagine having to pay a high room rate to be in the middle of nowhere when you can just go camping for one tenth of the price?

They should mention clearly when someone call for a reservation that the only things you can do: swim and walk. The closest restaurant is approx 20 km towards civilization in Cap Chat. The room rate would not have been an issue if they had a minimum level of service which was absolutely not the case.

We did a tour of the Gaspesia area, a 8 days wonderful trip. While we stayed in various types of hotel, the worst, by far, was the Village Grande Nature Chic-Chocs. I reserved all my rooms by telephone, after a good search on internet. The guy who answered us lied a lot about services and told us there was just a room left so I reserved. What a mistake: there was NOBODY ELSE that night. Getting there was very dangerous by GPS. While the exterior announce good, the rooms are horrible to our standard: no phone, no tv, no internet, the carpet looked horrible, it smelled smoke all around. Probably a good place for an after ski between 18-22 yo young kids who like to have fun but certainly not for a romantic getaway! They have no photos of their rooms and now I understand why!! My partner was so disapointed, I found another place (see Valmont). We did no stay for the night (never!) and the hotel did not offer any compensation, although we stayed there at max 2 hours. I really hope nobody gets there! Here is the URL of this place: http://www.villagegrandenaturechic-chocs.com

Room Tip: Valmont, get the Chalet for the same price and 1000 times more fun
