We stayed here for my daughter's 21st birthday. It was just wonderful, where do I start? The beautifully restored rooms, the relaxing dining/lounge room, the super comfortable beds with heaps of blankets, our own robes and slippers! Diane is a wonderful host and an great cook, she even made a cake for my daughter for her birthday. Breakfast was delicious especially the home grown plums. Just felt so spoilt and relaxed here. Definitely would recommend to other travellers and would love to go back again.

Room tip: Definitely have the breakfast!

This is a gorgeous renovated Villa with all the traditional trimmings. Each room has its own colour theme all with its own character and each as lovely as the other. The hosts Diane and Chris are delightful, totally welcoming you into their home where you want for nothing. Dianne is a fabulous cook who treats you to breakfast and cakes and muffins are always on offer. I recommend a visit here if your heading to Hobbiton or anywhere that requires accommodation in the area.

The hosts were absolutely lovely, friendly, but also knew when to allow us our time. Beautifully decorated throughout and a stunning location. The gardens were gorgeous. Awesome breakfast - standard was well above what you normally get. The location was a little further out of Matamata than we had thought it would be. However, it wouldn't have been in such a wonderful setting if it was closer to town.

Room tip: All rooms are stunning

We stayed at Villa Walton twice during our trip, once in the Boiler Room and once in Cole Room. Both times were wonderful. Diane is such a good host and the rooms were excellent. In fact the whole building is delightful, especially if you like period features, a sense of history and luxurious homeliness. The area is peaceful, with expansive views over countryside. Diane was flexible about breakfast, which was plentiful. She provides a constant supply of tea, coffee and cakes in the restful, sumptuous lounge. There are books to read, a baby grand piano to play, and there are plenty of places to sit outside to relax and read, mostly in the shade of the traditional wooden verandas. It seemed nothing was too much trouble for Diane and Chris and they have a relaxed, easy manner yet are unobtrusive if that’s your preference. What more is there to say? Great water pressure in the showers, plenty of thick soft towels, quality bed-linen, better than some so-called 5-star hotels.

Nothing much negative to say. Just make sure you read the booking website so you have accurate expectations about room size, capacity, (no) air-con etc. Internet was rather slow; I suppose it’s a long way from the exchange. It’s not the proprietors’ fault. It’s rural here.

Stay here if you are visiting matamata/hobbiton.

Beautiful rooms, amazing service, quaint atmosphere. If you love shabby chic then you'll love this.

The bed was so comfortable and the shower was great! The surroundings were beautiful although it's a 10 min drive to nearest town.

Had a full breakfast the next morning and it was taken in the main kitchen with the owner cooking up eggs and pancakes and making fresh pots of coffee whilst you sit at the large kitchen table. Really old school, personal B and B experience.

Absolutely no complaints with this place. Would recommend it very highly.
