Just got back from 7 nights at Sandals Grande St Lucia. All i can say was WOW was without doubt the best vacation at Sandals we. (My brother and i) have ever had. Everything was absolutely amazing and the entire staff made sure of that. First and foremost, a huge shoutout to Nadia, Pamela, Natalya and Latoya (you all made this trip PERFECT). There is not ONE bad thing to say about this resort, dont belive any negative reviews u read they are all LIES.
When we arrived in St Lucia we breezed through customs and went directly to the ST Lucia Helicopter desk. Unfortuantely they where unable to fly at that time (no biggie), we went to the Sandals lounge where we where greated warmly and welcomed. We told them we would need a ride to the resort, they arranged a private transfer for us because the van was full(super amazing). Its about an hour and 35 minuets to the Grande. If you get car sick i would opt for the helicopter if avilable. Our driver was great, he told us a lot about St Lucia and pointed out a lot of the points of interest. Upon arrival to the Grande we where quickly escorted to reception and where greated by Nadia and her awesome smile. She welcomed us back to Sandals and helped us check in. Glasses of champaigne and cool wet towels also arrived within a minute of us sitting down. Nadia then escorted us to our room and insisted she would take care of booking our resturant reservations and also made it clear that as a policy of Sandals tipping was not allowed at the resort. Wow! Talk about being treated like Kings.
The room was 2109, a ground floor Rodney Bay honeymoon room. The room was so nice and faced the ocean on the carribean side. We had a decent sized patio which was only steps from the beach and a lazy hammock on the grass. The bed was comfortable and wifi in the room was fast. The room had a fridge with bottled water, juices, soda and a bottle of champaigne. The bathroom was very nice and looked brand new. We later met our amazing house keeper (Constance) who also welcomed us home and told us she would be taking care of us all week. She also gave us a great reccomendation for lunch (Josephines the Creperie).
We headed off to lunch and went straight for Josephines. Josephines is a set up right bebind the main pool and next to Dinos pizza. We walked in, sat down and had a great lunch. Pizza crepes, dinos pizza and ice cream. The chef, Augustus, there was so funny and always remembered our names all week. Food was excellent everytime we went. The entire staff there was very cheeful and always seemed excited to help us out.
We then checked in at the Aqua center and signed up for scuba diving all week, one of the main reasons for us to stay at Sandals (included). We are certified divers so the morning dives are usually what we do. Everyone at the aqua center was great. During our week there, we dived almost every morning. Pamela and Natalya where the instructors who where beyond awesome. Every day they had a great sense of humor and made it so much fun. Pamela also offered to get us certified as Adavanced Open water divers which both decided to do (a lot more to see at 100 feet down). The diving was really good here with plenty to see. The sites all had such a diversity of fish and coral. You get to dive the carribean sea and atlantic ocean there, we had a great drift/current dive one day. They even do a wreck dive which was a lot of fun. Visibility ranged anywhere from 75 to 120 feet on a daily basis. The water was 86 degrees at 65 feet down so no wet suits needed. The crazy part was MOST of the days we dived only 3 to 4 guests including me and my brother where diving, i think we picked a lucky week. The small group diving made it a huge bonus for us and one day it was only my brother ans I diving with Pamela. Pamela also told us next time we come back we need to take the Lionfish course which the resort offers and we wish we could have done. (Note to any certified diver take that course its amazing). The boat captain Deniel (my spelling may be off) was always fun to interact with. The whole dive operation there is phenominal, the way the whole staff works together and dives is sometiming i wont forget. What we noticed was Pamela and Natalya just loved to dive as much as we did which made it all very special. I will miss u both :)
Every resturant on the prioertt we ate at was great. The italian restaurant and Gordons where our favorite. I would reccomend the lasagna, chicken parm, and fettchini alfredo at the italian restaurant (Note this is formal dinning so no shorts or sandals here). Gordons surf and turf and lamb chops are amazing, and the best thing is you can have it all week!
Bayside was good as well, we liked the stripserloin and lamb. We went to Kimonos, the tepanaki place, and wow prepare to eat a lot of everthing! The food was great and we had a lot of fun there. (Kiminos and Soy have the BEST hidden bar which serves Saki ans Saki infused/ inspired drinks) Omoron, the bar tender at Kimonos, makes stellar drinks. He was always in a great mood and was so full of energy, we will miss his drinks. He offered a Saki tester tray with all the infused Saki flavors for us to try! Fantastic! They also serve Kirin beer there.
We had barefoot, dinos, jerk shack, and Marinners for lunch on most days. Loved the Pizza at Dinos, the burgers at Marinners, and anything from the Jerk shack was always good.
The main pool was usually filled with people, its big, and always played good music. The drinks never stopped at the pool bar or beach bar. If you catch bartender Peter, ask for the "Peter special", it wont disapoint! We also went to the lagoon pool that the swim out rooms share and enjoyed how quiet it was. The pools where clean and warm.
The Beach at the Grande is stunning. It looks EXACTLY as advertised on the web site. The water is clear and pristine. The blue color is soooo beautifual. We sat on one of the round water floaties for hours. Rochelle was very good at bringing us drinks while we where on the beach and in the water. I cant say enough about how nice this beach and water was.
Nightime at the Grande was always fun. They have nighly entertainment ranging from singers, dancers, pianno player, jazz, saxiphone player, a newly wed show, and a Carribean Beach party. We usually ended up the the Olde London Pub every night. This pub was awesome, Latoya is the pub manager and she along with the rest of her crew makes it a wild fun filled party everynight. Latoya would walk around to tables and just start singing and dancing and would get the whole crowd in on it. She had some great drink reccomendations and she never let ur cup or bottle go empty. The food at the pub was outstanding. We had the bangers and mash, braised pork belly, deep fried truffled mac and cheese balls, buffalo wings, and pub burgers. Everything was packed with a lot of flavor and was a great meal or snack option. Also the pub is open late making this ur best option for late night eats besides room service. The billards room next to the pub had pool tables and darts.
People always ask about the alcohol at sandals so here is a slight overview. The Grande has Heinekin and the local Piton beer on tap.. They have jack daniels, johnny walker red/black, jameson, absolute/sky vodka, baileys, appleton rum, and plenty more. Some bars do have Glenfeddich scotch (my favorite). Champaigne and wine are everywhere. The pub has ciders, guiness, stella, newcastle, and a few other beers. Those r only availbale in the Pub though.
We did take the heliopter on the way back, 12 minuets vs an hour and a half, was worth the money lol. We didnt visit Halycon or La Toc but everyone said the Grande was without doubt the best place to stay!
Overall the whole Resort was clean and beautiful. The grounds are green and well kept! The Resort staff was just amazing! Throughout the whole week Nadia managed to track us down to make sure we where having a perfect time. Everytime we walked by any staff member we where warmly greated. On a daily basis every staff member seemed to go out of their way to make sure our vacation was great. We had such a blast here and made so many new friends while diving and drinking. We have been to 3 other Sandals, plus this one, and without a doubt this resort is the best. I think that all people from St. Lucia in general are just so warm and welcoming to everyone. We did book Emerald Bay next summer but i cant wait to go back to the Grande St. Lucia!
By the end of the week everyone knew our names or that we where ONE of the brothers at the Resort. A HUGE thanks to Nadia for being so amazing and helping us with everything! She gave us so much special attention even though she swore its just the role of a hospitality employee. Pamela and Natalya you guys where the absolute best to spend hours diving with, i hope you come visit. Latoya ill miss all your positive energy and fun attitude. Until we all meet again, we will miss you all.
