We stayed at Mango bay at the end of January and had a fantastic time. Checking in was prompt and efficient and we were relaxing within 15 minutes after our cases were brought to the room.

We had requested room 414 as recommended by our friends who have stayed at Mango, so I emailed Shireene a week before we set off. The room was not available for the first three days but she gave me the option to move after that which we did.(although we were very happy with our original room)..

The bar and restaurant are lovely. The drinks are all premuim brands and the banks beer on draft is good. The food was outstanding. Great choice at breakfast! Lunch was normally waitress service except for 2 lovely buffet meals and Dinner was stunning everynight washed down with the lovely Rose wine....(if you do want to go out for a meal do it on BBQ night)......

We sunbathed on the decking area looking out to sea everyday. This is a lovely area and its a few steps down to the lovely beach area. ( although on certain days the beach was covered with the sea. (but this is happening all over the island)...The pool area is nice and there is a constant breeze running through this area which with the heat is sometimes needed....

The service we received from the staff was simply outstanding. Always a smile on their faces and always asking if everything is OK. Shireene(manager) always made time to speak to people most days....

The hotel also include most water sports and 2 boat trips. The afternoon on the catamran swimming with turtles was a great exprience...

If you want to leave the resort there are a great deal of bars behind the hotel!!! Mews and Lexy's piano bar are the trendy places....(we partied with Cliff and Cilla and one night in Lexys)...and across the road is a new designer mall which will be full opened in March...All designer brand shops at great prices.....

Overall we had a great time and met the most fantastic of people who we will remain on contact with and hopefully see at Mango bay in the near future....

This is a small friendly hotel with good food and pleasant facilities. We booked a Superior Room but were lucky to get an Ovean Front. The room was large and not tired, although some of the furniture will need replacing in a year or so.

The meals varied from good to excellent and were well presented. There has been some criticism of the meal size but although a meal might be considered small for a one off meal out, there was more than enough food with 3 cooked meals a day. The meal choice was good with 3 main courses and a vegetarian option. As it was a smaller hotel there was understandably not the range of choice as at larger hotels.

The bar was well stocked with branded spirits available. The entertainment was good and suited to our age group. Space at the beach front was sometimes at a premium but it was too hot there for us; the poolside was cooler.

The big plus for us was that being a smaller hotel, we found many like minded people to talk to; most of whom were British. It was far more sociable than the larger hotels we have visited before and the friendly staff made it very pleasant.

We have just returned from another holiday at the Mango Bay resort. It wasn't any better than our last holiday there or the two before that- indeed the most notable thing about the Mango Bay is that it is so well managed that it just does not vary from its truly excellent standards from year to year.
I can think of no other hotel I have regularly stayed at over the last 40 years which always impresses me with exceptional food and beautifully presented and cleaned rooms. This is an all inclusive Hotel with a good free bar and serving 3 exceptional meals per day (two with as much wine as you wish) plus afternoon tea sandwiches and cakes. The evening entertainment is always in my experience of a very high standard.
It is however a relatively small hotel on a relatively small plot . Some recent reviewers have compared their experience at the Mango Bay with their experience at the Sandy Lane . Well there is no comparison. The Sandy Lane is a 5 Star Diamond Hotel of International standing and their cheapest room is about three times the price of the Mango Bay cheapest room --and thats with breakfast only. If you want a large hotel with glitz then the Mango Bay is not for you. Try the Sandy Lane-Colony Club -Coral Reef etc..
If you are happy with less glamour then the Mango Bay offers you a position right next to Holetown and right in the middle of the most prestigious beach area in Barbados with continuous beach walks (subject to tides) of about 2.5 miles in each direction. (you can of course walk down to the relatively adjacent Sandy Lane Hotel and swim off their exceptionally good --public-- beach). However the water is just as warm and clear right outside the Mango Bay.
Another concern sometimes raised is the noise to the rear of Standard rooms. I have stayed in a standard room and there is noise but only on Sunday evenings when its Karaoke night at the One Love Bar. The thing to do is to enjoy the Hotels own entertainment and when it finishes wander down the road to the Bar and enjoy the fun with the crowd of locals and tourists-and thats the end of the noise for a week.
One recent reviewer was concerned about the Lagoon on one side of the hotel. It is nothing more than trapped water which has come down from the hills in the rainy season. It's been there for centuries and apparently was used by early settlers to repair their ships . It is I think an attractive stretch of water (see my picture) it certainly does not smell --is full of fish and is the roosting site of hundreds of egrets each evening. True the water is the colour of tea--just like many Scottish Lochs.
Apart from the Mango Bay Hotel itself-why choose Barbados?. Well there is a great sense of security on the Island -we walk miles into the hinterland during the day and walk round Holetown after dark and we have never felt remotely threatened. If drivers think you wish to cross the road they will actually just stop and wave you across.
Almost unbelievably given that the west Coast of Barbados is such a prestigious holiday destination you can often walk along a stretch of beach and be on your own simply because the West coast is a series of Beaches and coves rather than one long beach.
You can also explore the Island with the standard bus fare of $1u.s. no matter how long the trip(download the official Barbados transport Service timetable from the Internet).

This is my second time stay here and have to agree with some of the earlier comments. My room was one of the best they can offer, ground floor sea view, yet was starting to become very tired I would guess about two years ago and is now completely knackered. it was a shame about the beach retreating but cannot say that it spoiled any of my sunbathing experience.

The restaurant far exceeded my expectations and in the 10 days I stayed never failed to delight at both Lunch and Dinner, in fact when I consider the cost of the dinners I had at Mangos by the sea and Tides, you start to realise how very good value this hotel is!.

Now on to the Hotels' best asset by far, their staff, nothing was ever too much trouble, always smiling and always willing to help wherever possible. The girls in the restaurant were just fantastic.

The big question is however would I stay again? I have to say yes, on condition that the room I stayed in was at the least refreshed and at best refurnished.

Reading some of the reviews on this hotel made me think that either we had stayed in a different hotel or people have become spoilt in their expectations. Yes some of the rooms may be a bit tired but we had a beach front room which was very comfortable (and clean) and whilst the beach erosion caused by the unseasonal weather is definitely putting pressure on the beach area we were always able to find a bed. On the plus sides the food was excellent with very efficient and friendly table service - the bar was just the right size to be friendly and intimate and the live evening entertainment on the outside terrace was at just the right level to be enjoyable but not obtrusive. Overall we had a lovely holiday and would certainly go back.
