Since the last time I stayed in '03 the power now seems to stay on all night (generator). For it's location it can't be beat. Yes it's on the pricey side, but look where it is. Rooms are clean and staff is great. This is nicer then the Desert Inn in Guerrero Negro and I would rank it #3 overall for the chain - #1 Loreto & #2 San Ignacio.

Hotel has great grounds and pool, and great location for an evening hike. The rooms are nice, well maintained. Restaurant food is OK, but not special; hovwever, amiance is good.
Hotel is sort of expensive, but relative to central baja hwy 1 resting points, is better than competing hotels. Most hotels in nearby El Rosario and Guerrero Negro are simply truck stops without nice grounds or pool.

I was planning on staying here, but balked when the surly clerk told me the rate was US $90 + 10% tax. I stayed across the street at a very rough, basic hotel for $25 (no tax). There is a very rustic ranch / restaurant a mile off the highway on the eastern side of town that also costs $25. The ranch is solar powered so it has electricity (refrigerator & lights), but after dark things shut down. Except the donkleys and horses wallking around......

On the way back, I passed through Catavina and stayed at the Oasis in El Rosario. It was an incredible value.

Very nice hotel in the middle of the desert, This is the only really nice hotel in Catavina. Room are very big, very clean and hotel is really nice. Is can be a bit expansive for the area: the price was $90 a night but we negiciated $70 a night when we were there. Very quiet too!

Stopped in Catavina on the way down and back up from Loreto. The rooms are large and clean and they take our medium sized dog. The restaurant is the typical menu you see at all the Desert Inns. Ate a total of one dinner and two breakfasts at the hotel. Food is decent and the service was good. The breakfasts were included in our travel pass along with a free margarita. We ate across the street at the ranch restaurant and they had the best steak rancheros ever for 5 dollars. Would stay at the Desert Inn again as we do ofter driving baja. I would also eat across the street to save some money and there is a store that sells beer and you can take them with you to the restuarant across the street.
