Been here a few times but was government owned last time I came. Great hotel in the middle of what can be described as beautiful nothing. Amazing scenery all around. Cycled here on both occasions and was always a great relief to arrive somewhere descent after a long ride. restaurant was really good rooms spacious and always clean. Staff friendly too. Take a black light touch and go scorpion hunting in the giant boulders out the back at night.

We have stayed at this property for years and were happy to know the new owners were also the owners of a very large produce company. They now have great food in their dining room! The rooms are OK, and could use a makeover, but are comfortable for the one night stay most people go there.

This was once one of the La Pinta Inns built by the Mexican government along the trans-peninsular highway from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas. It is situated in a 'bowl' in an astoundingly beautiful section of Baja California. There is a running stream (very rare) and native Washingtonia filifera palm trees. It is remote, it is 150 miles north to the closest gas station (El Rosario), and about the same distance south (Jesus Maria). There used to be several gas stations here, but all are now closed. Best get your gas in El Rosario or pay the equivalent of $7-8 a gallon, and you will be happy it only costs so little! It is sold out of hte backs of trucks from 5 gallon jerry cans.

Room Tip: any room towards the rear of the building facing the large cacti, away from the man road.

Not only is this a beautiful property with endless pristine beaches, the hotel took in 26 of us at the last minute when there was a problem on the highway! They were able to have our rooms ready in 30 minutes and plenty of food for all :)

After navigating past the potholes near Catavina and several hours of driving we pulled into the Desert Inn. The woman at the front desk had limited English (as is our Spanish) but we managed to book a room with two queen-sized beds. We had a quiet room around the pool. The prices for a single or double room were the same - 96 US or around 1200 pesos. The hotel was reasonably well-kept or clean and it certainly was relaxing finding a place with high standards in the middle of the desert. The restaurant prices are high for breakfast and okay for lunch or supper (138 pesos for shrimp burritos, which were a tad on the small side but adequate). Wifi was non-existent. As mentioned in the previous review you need a place off-road once night settles in. It's too hard to see the potholes and the shoulders are non-existent too. I would recommend this hotel. Prices are likely high because of the remote area and higher costs for their own services. Beer is reasonable, the place is quiet and the rooms are spacious. You can sit around the pool, in the small bar or go to the restaurant.
