Small bakery in downtown Monteverde. We grabbed some pastries on our way out of town. The man behind the counter wasn't overly friendly, but the pastries (in particular the guava pastry) were good.

My wife and I visited this bakery three times in as many days. It quickly became our morning destination. Great tasting coffee (the cappuccinos are delicious), tasty pastries and baked goods (we were fans of the bean empanadas). Very helpful and welcoming staff, if you need Wifi, just ask them for the password.

We went here three times while staying at Los Pinos Hotel across the street. Excellent coffee, baked goods and sandwiches. Ask what was baked that day to get the freshest things. They also serve "typical" breakfast.

Everything was fresh and made inside the store which happens to be the bakery. Banana pudding bread was amazing! Banana bread was so soft and moist! Everything we ordered was pretty much perfect.

If you are in Santa Elena, the only town near Monteverde, and you have some budget problem, this is your stop. Not only they offer many options but they have other products to complement your breakfast, lunch or dinner. Take into consideration that they do close at 6pm so you may need to purchase your dinner early.
This local Costa Rican Bakery has two other locations. One is up the road on the way to the Monteverde community in Cerro Plano right across El Establo Hotel and the other on the way to Tilaran or Las Juntas or Arenal in a community called Cañitas.
Fresh bread and cakes and other desserts are available daily and the price is amazingly cheap for the area.
Enjoy the enchiladas!
