I usually complain about anything I am unhappy about when I go on holiday - there is usually some issue so I’m sure I am cursed! I’m writing this on our penultimate day here at the Avani resort & spa and I feel very sad - sad because we have to leave this wonderful place and it’s amazing staff tomorrow and return home to the UK.
Let me stress - I CAN FIND NOTHING TO WARN YOU ABOUT OR COMPLAIN ABOUT HERE!! It’s actually a relief because at least I know I’m not cursed!
The water bungalows are so clean, inviting, cosy and well designed - with spacious showers that have windows out onto the sea, nice to see that view whilst taking a shower! Also very private that nobody can see you! The rooms are cleaned and our towels were changed every day, without us asking, with me being slightly OCD this pleased me very much :)
Room service came quickly, the food was hot and always delivered with a smile. Nothing is too much trouble for EVERY staff member here. Everyone of them is smiling and saying hello. Not because the management have told them to behave like this, because they genuinely want to make sure guests have a great holiday. The food in the Chinese restaurant, the mixed cuisine and the buffet restaurant at breakfast and dinner is lovely. I must credit Wong and his staff particularly in the Chinese restaurant for exceptional service and wonderful food. But all the food & beverage/ waiting staff are so lovely and kind.
The staff who I came into most contact with were Pavithra and Farisa who are just wonderful. Pavithra is so funny and really made me smile so much. The tour manager who is on hand to help with excursions is ‘Dave’ - his real name is Madhavan and I insisted on calling him this, I don’t understand why tourists cannot pronounce his name, it’s really not difficult guys, make the effort! :)
This trip was a birthday gift from my partner and when we arrived after 16 hours travelling on in direct flight from London there was a huge and delicious cake in our room, and balloons/ flowers etc, obv a little extra but executed perfectly by Bibhuti, Hasmah, Deco and Syakir- these guys and girls also cleaned our room daily and left cute towelling sculptures, just the little touches that made us smile. The pantry makes the best coffee which we enjoyed on rainy (but hot) days curled up with a book or relaxing before a spa appointment. Speaking of which - I had a different treatment nearly every day, the exchange rate means that treatments I can’t usually afford at home were accessible here. The staff in the spa are adorable. Cynthia, Sabrina, Fatimah, Azlin, Achoo and the whole team are so professional and hugely skilled, my partner is 6ft and muscular yet Sabrina who is tiny and very slim with small hands gave him two very deep tissue massages that he loved. Their techniques are fantastic! I fell asleep during my facials they were so good! Even though my Malay is non-existent and their English is minimal, we had lots of conversations, and laughter.
The other person very special here is Rahman who is on the valet team that arrange your transport to various places you want to go. He is very knowledgeable of course having grown up in the area, his English is very good and he is so helpful. We had many good laughs with Rahman and he recommended good places to visit for us. When you visit, ask for Rahman, he will look after you. I will include photos which I hope help. I have issues on every holiday with noise from other rooms, but every night and morning you could hear only the sounds of the sea or the birds. Even though each water bungalow has two rooms next to each other on the ground floor and upper floor, only each bathroom is joined, so nobody disturbs anyone else.
We stayed in room 013 - ironically my lucky number (13)!
You just do a trip to the mangroves where you’ll get out on the boat, feed the monkeys (what a treat!!) see otters and mudskippers and learn some local culture. Also the dragonfruit farm and see Batu Caves. Thank you to Ezhwan (Asst Mngr) & Ricky Ho (manager) for the best holiday ever! ❤️
