This is a nice condo property along with its sister property next door at the very Northern point of Nuevo Vallarta. We stayed in a two bedroom suite, however the second bedroom is standalone and you have to cross either the external entryway or balcony to access the living/dinning area of the other bedroom unit. Wifi is only accessible in pool area and main lobby... or if you are on balcony. Nice pools and you are literally right on the beach! Now the cons... Service was notably absent! Maid service 2 out of seven days? Requests to repair broken microwave ignored repeatedly for 3 days. No laundry detergent, or dish washing soap in unit! Other guests we talked to had similar issues so does not appear to be isolated.

This property has everything you would want in a beach resort, long beautiful beaches, superb sunsets, lovely rooms, staff that genuinely want to help you enjoy your time in their resort, and chefs that prepare food to die for. It may be a few bucks more than some hotels, but will leave you with memories that you'll never forget.

Room Tip: Suggest booking 4 to 6 months in advance for best rates.

We loved our trip from August 4-12, 2017 to Villa La Estancia. We used Costco Travel to book the flights and rooms. 8 people (two families and one solo), 4 rooms total.
The staff at La Estancia were awesome. We'd asked over the Costco website to have all of our rooms together even though we were arriving on two adjacent days, and they had already gotten this done for us before we arrived. All 8 of us loved the trip and the hotel.

The rooms were spacious and beautiful. Ours was a 1 Bedroom King, and our teen son stayed on the pull-out in the living room. We asked for (and got) mattress pads, which made both beds very comfortable--the best we've ever gotten anywhere in Mexico (where the mattresses tend to be extremely hard). Air Conditioning was likewise the best I've ever had in Mexico.

Transfer from airport to hotel (pre-paid through Costco Travel) was seamless both directions. The staff at the hotel are AMAZING. We tipped well and often despite having the 'all inclusive' meal plan, based on other comments we'd read here and elsewhere. We brought a bunch of $1 and $5 bills from the US and left them in the safe to be used as tips throughout the visit, and never had a problem.

We also tipped when signing for daily charges, but as far as I was concerned it was worth the extra couple hundred total over a 9-day vacation to make sure we got great service and that the staff was compensated for the hard work they did to make our trip great.

Our trip lasted 8 nights, 9 days. August is crazy hot and humid in Mexico, but the rains only came about 1/2 of the nights during or just after dinner, and never during the day. The pool water is warm this time of year (very warm by end of day), and the ocean is very warm. Not a problem in the water, but hellish to walk around the local towns. We did it anyway. Only our teen son had issues with mosquitos, and only on the first night at dusk.

We had to be careful in the ocean due to stingrays, but got good advice from staff on lowering the chance of a sting, and the staff puts out colored flags to alert to conditions including bad waves or stingrays. Nobody at the resort seemed to have trouble during our 9 days. Nothing to see in the ocean, but it's a beautiful beach and a very swimmable oceanfront. Fun for boogie boarding in the afternoons, and waverunners or kayaks in the calm mornings.

As far as the All Inclusive option is concerned, it worked out well for our families. Breakfast at La Casona was always great (we love Mexican buffet breakfasts) and lunches at the poolside cafe(s) were great. But it's purely a financial call, because at La Estancia you have to sign for the purchases regardless (even if just to add a tip). So if you plan on spending multiple days/evenings elsewhere (nearby towns are great fun), it might not make financial sense. Do the math.

Dinners at La Casona (the upscale restaurant) were the only disappointment. The food was good (not great, and not necessarily better than the other restaurants albeit presented much more nicely), but the dinners regularly lasted over 2 hours each time, with stretches of up to 45 mins between food items arriving. Once we recognized that pattern, we stopped going there for dinner and were much more satisfied elsewhere. If the hotel fixed that problem, we'd have nothing to complain about.

Taxi to Viejo Vallarta is about 45 mins. Taxi to Bucerias (good food options there) is about 20 minutes and cheap. Taxi to Suyalita (really cute surfer/fishing town) is about 40 mins. Easy to get taxis at Villa Estancia, including vans, because they keep some on property. In general, the taxi leaving will cost more than coming back.

We had no problems on our trip. Of 8 of us, 1 got travelers' diarrhea (no idea from where or what meal). My family of 3 used Pepto Bismol tablets as a preventative and had no trouble (4 others used nothing and also had no trouble). We drank bottled water and drinks, but used hotel ice and brushed teeth from the taps with no issue. Also ate anything we wanted. No problems except for 1 of 8, and even then it was mostly a 1-day problem.

Note that the waverunners and other fun stuff down the beach can be a bit pricey, and tough to negotiate down. But they're really fun and worth bringing extra money for. Dollars or pesos. The nearest ATM is at the sister hotel. Dispenses pesos. We brought our own, but needed more several times, mostly due to excursions and trips to nearby towns.

We went on Vallarta Adventures excursions this time and last time we were there. Excellent company, and highly recommended. Mariettas Eco (boat and snorkel) and Las Caletas (boat and private jungle/beach area with snorkel and other activities) are both very nice tours with multiple things to do on each. Strongly suggest looking for deals online and booking tours before you go, since the most popular tours can book up a week or so in advance.

Also note that the "hidden beach" tours are really uncommon now, though nobody tells you this online. We heard that the govt. is currently limiting tours to a max of about 150 visitors a day to this spot, so your best chances might be to choose one of the other excellent tours, or at least not get your hopes up.

We look forward to another trip in the future. Villa La Estancia was great, and we'd be happy to go there again! 8 nights was too few! During our trip, Estancia was only about 25-30% occupied, and this falls further in September once school (and hurricane season) starts. This made for a great trip for us, with no trouble getting service, towels, places to sit. I think I'd avoid the place during Dec/Jan when they're 90-100% occupied.
