Very good fish and chips, generous portions. Warm, welcoming look, the way you'd expect a country pub to look--and they have the most entertaining restroom signs we've ever seen!

Food was great. We stayed in the pub and had great food the first evening. So good we decided to come back the second. Steak and ale pie was great. Breakfast was included in the package and the test was that even this was very good. Beer was well kept and service was prompt although it was very busy and people were literally queueing up outside. Book early.

Popped in on our way through Threlkeld for a quick drink and ended up staying for a few hours! Very hospitable and served up a lovely meal. Definitely one I'd go back to.

All tables were booked with some empty tables with reserved on. We asked if it would be OK to have a drink, sit at a reserved table and move when the people arrive who'd booked the table.
"I shouldn't think so! ' was the reply.
Really?...
Went elsewhere!

We called in especially on the way home from Keswick having eaten here before . We ordered Sunday lunch for 2 adults, a child's Sunday lunch and a child's steak pie. The food arrived very quickly which is always worrying. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt and rock hard and The roast potatoes tasted like they had been kept warm. We arrived about 4pm and Sunday lunch finished at 5 pm. I sent 2 Yorkshire puddings back and even though the waitress agreed they were Inedible no apology was given or indeed any explanation/feedback. The crust on the pie was also rock hard and Inedible. At £3.50 for children's desserts this was also disappointing. A couple of scoops of raspberry ripple ice-cream and a small piece of choc fudge cake and ice-cream. Overall v poor experience although staff were v friendly and pub is nice inside.
