On the strength of the reviews here and elsewhere, we chose to drive 30 minutes or so to the Horse & Farrier in Threlkeld. We were not disappointed.

The fish and chips I had were exceptional followed by the bread and butter pudding (a personal favourite desert).

Overall a great choice for pub grub within the vicinity of Keswick and I wouldn't hesitate to add my recommendation to the others out there.

Have been to this pub several times before and the food has always been magnificent. The steaks are always cooked too perfection, and the chicken risotto was beautiful. Very well presented by the chefs, and the service welcoming. Would defiently recommend.

Traditional country pub. We have been to the Horse and Farrier on many occasions and enjoyed the food but standards have slipped. This week was not of the same standard and the food not as good. Scampi and chips (chips more than twice cooked - obviously forgot they were in the pan !!) and the Farrier Fish, (overcooked on the outside and soggy batter underneath) chips (over cooked) and mushy peas. Thankfully the waitress was very friendly and smiling - not so the other bar staff. This visit we would have to say less than average quality pub grub - therefore making it overpriced for what it was.

We visited the horse & farrier on three occasions whilst staying locally in Threlkeld. The daily menu is good and options are extended by daily specials. Sunday lunch was perfect and we all enjoyed the puddings especially the ginger sponge. Service is efficient and friendly and the staff seem to take pride in the service they provide.

Sunday lunch for four, pretty average fare served with a sense of boredom and a premium price for 'atmosphere'.
Not dog friendly as advertised.
However subsequent dinner booking cancelled with one hours notice, and we had nothing else in for dinner.
Saved by the White Horse Inn just up the road, consequently all four of us ate there for the following four nights. Better range of food, better prices, and much nicer staff.
