Bradt travel guide titled "Dominica" by Paul Crask (ISBN 9781841623566). Mr. Crask writes like a local giving lots of interesting details and personal insights into the culture, sights, restaurants, lodging and activities of Dominica.
Anna McCanse's book "Dominica; Discover the Real Dominica" (ISBN 9780982261972) may have more informative and be more useful however. This guidebook has maps and a hiking guide.
One word of caution though.
At the end of the tourist season and the beginning of the rainy season, many shops, lodges and restaurants are closed or have limited hours. It would be wise to call ahead and talk to people in person to ensure hours of operations. Also most places don't respond to email.
It seems like the economy changes swiftly in Dominica. Businesses can open and go bankrupt quickly. So if you do find something you love open please support them and encourage them.
