Since 2003, Ischia hosts an International Film Festival that attracts every year filmmakers and renowed artists of the movie arts to the island. Oscar winners such as cinematographer Vittorio Storaro have attended the festival (Storaro was given the Ciak di Corallo award for his career achievement in the festival's 2005 edition).

It is a competitive festival with about 25 films competing for the major prize. The festival also hosts: conventions about different topics  related to the movie business; themed exhibitions; meetings with participating filmmakers and special screenings with the masters of filmmaking such as Akira Kurosawa ans Luchino Visconti.

In this year's edition, the festival celebrated German films showing films by Wim Wenders, Tom Tykwer, and Anno Saul. It also included a photographic exhibition called Scenario about images in film of Ischia and Naples and a non competitive exhibition of documentaries and short films.
