Want to drive from Thessaloniki to Kastoria? Some travelers who have done it think it’s easy to do.
From the airport, follow the signs to Athens. The road leads you to the A2 Thessaloniki - Igoumenitsa highway (Egnatia Odos) by using connections outside the city. The first part of the road that surrounds the city (also known as the ring road) can be clogged with traffic, but as soon as you enter Egnatia Odos you will not face any problems.
While in Egnatia Odos (which in this part coincides with A1 Thessaloniki - Athens highway), you will have to pass a toll stop at Malgara (2 Euros). About 15 minutes later, follow the signs for Kozani (A2 highway). At this point you are leaving A1 highway and you will follow Egnatia (A2) highway. You will drive through the newly delivered part of the highway, a series of tunnels and bridges.
After this part, at Polymylos junction, the highway construction has been delayed for about 5 kilometers due to archaeological excavations. Continue on the highway until you reach Siatista junction. From this point, follow the road to Kastoria. Parts of the highway have been constructed, but you will mostly follow the existing road. When in Kastoria, follow the signs to Kalohori or Nestorio.
