Located in the heart of the historic coastal village of Helmsdale, overlooking the mouth of the River Helmsdale, our traditional three storey stone cottage is the ideal location from which to base your holiday in the north of the Scottish Highlands with its wonderful scenery and amazing history.

We have two twin rooms on the top floor, with a small quiet area in between where children can play or if the house is busy you can sit and read or write your post cards. On the middle floor there is the sittingroom - with TV, DVD player and wood burning stove, with lots of sitting space for everything - family bathroom, with shower over the bath, and double bedroom. The front door, opening to Dunrobin Street is also on this level, as is the guest cupboard with all our local tourist information and a selection of games.

The cottage was fantastic. Exceptionally clean and lovely decor. On 3 levels and extremely spacious. There were 8 of us in our party and plenty of room and seating for everyone to sit in the lounge and at the big table in the kitchen. Beds were made up and towels were provided. The hosts were very approachable and quick to reply to any inquiries and made sure we had all directions and info well before our travels. The house is clean, on three levels. The beds comfy. It is a verry good place stay. From this place we visited the northern region and coast. We went to Fornisard and Dunnet Head to do some birding.

Please note the following:

The Total Rental Cost in any quote sent will include a £50 security deposit which is refundable minus any moneys you might owe us.

Our weekly rate is sometimes better value than our nightly rate - we will send you a quote based on whichever is cheaper. For example if you want to stay 5 nights in the winter then our week rental rate is cheaper so that is what we would send.

We will accept bookings for one nights stay but the charge would be the same as if staying for two nights.

£4 a night electricity is included in the price quoted. Additional use will be charged at cost and kept from your good house keeping deposit.

Helmsdale is the perfect location for your holiday in the Scottish Highlands as there are so many things to see and do in the village itself and the surrounding area. As Helmsdale is located at the junction of the A9 and A897 roads it is very easy to explore both the east and north coastline.

In our cottage we have provided guests with detailed information suggesting how to make the most of your holiday in this beautiful part of Scotland. Options include doing the North Coast 500 route, visiting Dunrobin Castle and the Castle of Mey, playing golf on one of the many local courses, going to the beach, fishing for salmon, and visiting local museums such as Timespan.
Getting around
You see the north of Scotland best by car but Helmsdale is on the Far North Train line (Thurso and Wick in the north and Inverness in the south) and there are regular buses that do the same route.

If you're travelling by car then take the A9 north, following the signs for Wick or Thurso. Helmsdale is about 2 hours drive north of Inverness.
