Castara Cottage is surrounded by a lush tropical garden containing plants, fruits and flowers including banana trees, cocoa trees, palms, bouganvilea, orleander and hibiscus. A wide variety of colourful tropical birds such as tanagers and bananaquits visit the bird feeders at the cottage all day long, and you will also see and hear flocks of green parrots, the spectacularly beautiful Mot Mot, and the Chacalaca or Cocorico, Tobago's national bird.
Castara is a working fishing village where visitors are both welcomed and encouraged to experience the local, Tobagonian way of life. By day, relax on one of the two picture-perfect Caribbean beaches to be found just 2 minutes walk from your apartment, or visit Castara’s beautiful waterfall for a cool dip. In the evening, visit one of the village’s local restaurants or enjoy fresh fish on your balcony, caught daily by Castara’s very own fisherfolk and sold right next to the beach! Add a loaf of warm bread, baked by the infamous ‘bread ladies’ in the historical clay oven, and a glass of local rum and you have the perfect accompaniment to one of Castara’s spectacular sunsets.
If you want to spend your holiday in a friendly, beautiful and unpretentious environment with an abundance of nature and natural sights to see and enjoy, Castara and Castara Cottage will be happy to welcome you for a comfortable, relaxed and friendly holiday.

Castara Cottage is in the vilage of Castara, Tobago. It is situated on the headland, between the two bays/beaches.
Castara is situated about about 20 kilometres north of Crown Point. Take the Claude Noel Highway from the airport to Scarborough, the capital city, from where you join the Northside Road. Drive through the villages of Concordia, Mason Hall, Moriah and Runnymede before arriving in Castara, a beautiful fishing village on the Caribbean coast.
Getting around
A bus service runs through the village approximately once every 2 hours and goes to Scarborough (or L’Anse Fourmi in the opposite direction).
Bus tickets must be bought before boarding the bus and it costs $5tt to get into Scarborough. Tickets can be bought from any of the small shops that display a ‘PTSC Tickets Sold Here’ sign, or ask any local person.
Please remember that we are in the Caribbean and, as such, timetables do not carry the same weight as they might in Europe or the USA! If you wait at the bus stop (opposite Shirma’s, close to the ATM) at half past an even hour (10.30, 12.30, 2.30) then the bus should come in the next 30 minutes. Sometimes you will have missed it already: sometimes it will take another 60 minutes, somet
