The linens we provide you with is of a high thread count and is professionally laundered. Hot water is on demand, no waiting for a tank to reheat, and the whole-house water softener does not use salts or chemicals and is drinkable. Central heating is installed in all rooms, additionally there is a real flame gas fire in the reading room providing extra heat and ambiance. The house was stylishly redecorated in 2017 to provide modern comforts whilst retaining its original French character and original features. There is a wrought iron dining set for dinners al fresco, table tennis, boules and skittles for outdoor games, and loungers to lie out in the sun. There are some fruit trees and herbs planted around the house that guests can pick from for their meals at the house. Bligny-les-Beaune has some essential shops such as bakery/general store and tabac/poste, and is well placed for visiting the whole wine area, with quick and easy access to the motorways if you want to go further afield to the many chateaux. L'Ancien Domaine received a 4 star rating from Côte d'Or Toursime and is approved by Sawday's, the well respected UK guide to B&Bs and holiday rentals. We welcome pets and the courtyard can be completely closed off allowing you peace of mind that your dog can't run off. We have chickens but as their pen is fox proof it is dog proof too. There is a selection of DVDs in the house, books, and games of draughts, backgammon, cards and Yahtsee. We also offer a range of additional services including mid-stay cleaning/change of linen, loan of mobile phone, guided wine tours or tutored wine tastings at the property, and watercolour painting lessons with a local French artist at her studio. Interaction with guests
All of the large planted courtyard is for our guests, with some small parts of it being shared access with the owner/artist simply to allow movement between buildings. Guests still retain a lot of privacy for their relaxation, with areas exclusively for guest use. Our presence in the next building gives the area a bit more life and allows the gite courtyard to be full of trees, flowers, bushes and herbs (no low maintenance garden here), and we are also on hand for any assistance you may need, whether that be with the house, last minute wine, or for recommendations or bookings. We otherwise leave you in peace and have our own separate garden for us and our dogs. Think of us as a combination of a concierge and a good neighbour.

About the neighbourhood
The property is at the edge of a village. It is very close to Beaune, Pommard, Volnay and Meursault and well placed for visiting the whole Burgundian wine area. It is also quick and easy to access the motorway if you wish to go further afield. We are near to an electric railway line, and we prefer to be upfront about that, but there are several buildings and trees between it and the house dampening any noise. To put it into context, the birdsong can sometimes be louder and it is generally a very peaceful area. The house is set 20m back from a quiet village road, and one of the grassy relaxation areas is set even further back. If you are bringing a dog, there is a countryside walk to take right from the house.
Getting around
There are some essential shops in the village but you will need a car to get around. Supermarkets, petrol stations and restaurants are all found a very short drive away in Beaune. My old bicycle can be used to fetch bread from the bakery in the village centre if you wish.
