We want our guests to discover and love wild Ceredigion in the same way we do, not as a visitor but as a local, so they will tell others and come back time and again. The outbuildings and acres of Banceithin were unloved for many years. Out of the mess we've created a home, two environmentally friendly holiday cottages, a wildlife haven and thriving smallholding, just a 20 minute drive from the pretty Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron in Ceredigion. Hen Ffermdy cottage was an old farmhouse built in the early 1800's. This spacious detached two person cottage is also environmentally friendly, the winner of a Green Tourism Gold Award. The contemporary fitted kitchen is well equipped. Reclaimed furniture not found in any catalogue or department store give the cottage interior a character all its own. You can step back in time and enjoy the sound of old vinyl records on the 1950's radiogram. A wood burning stove, vintage Welsh wool blanket and hot water bottle in cute hand made “Barn Owl” cover keep you extra toasty on winter nights. You don't even need to go out for provisions as organic vegetables, fruit, milk and bread, and a selection of Welsh cheeses, can be ordered and will be in your cottage ready and waiting for your arrival. There is no mobile coverage, but the cottage has wi-fi and a signal for most networks can be picked up a few minutes walk up the lane. The cottage has its own garden and patio where you can enjoy a glass of wine, watching the red kites soaring above while barbecuing local mackerel for tea or maybe big fat sausages made by us from our own free range pork. But our home is your home, so wander the smallholding, swing in the treehouse hammock by the stream, chat to the free ranging chickens, meet the sheep and pigs, take your book for a peaceful read in the corner of our grassland with just the birds for company.

A great find!
This was the second time we have stayed in Hen Fermddy and we'll be returning in 2022! The Kitchen has been installed and equipped to a very high standard. The bathroom is clean and hygienic (even if as a six-footer, I find the shower a bit cramped). Lots of maps and books and DVD's etc. It is so QUIET at night and the stars really are amazing. Several lovely beaches and coastal villages within a half hours drive, Great coast path walking too. If you'd found somewhere like this in Brittany or the Atlantic coast in France you'd have thought it was worth all the driving and ferry to get there! If it was Cornwall, it would have been heaving with people. But it's in the UK and even before the schools went back we could always find somewhere to park. A great find!

The house is Wonderful, very comfortable, it is a new renovated old farm house. It is as describe in the internet. Everything what we need is there. It is very good described how to use several untilities as TV, DVD Player, … The owners are very helpful and not obtrusive (I hope I got the right English word). The house is 1,5 km from the next road away and we had a chalange to find it. The owners helped us and fetched us. This was very friendly. Better is to follow Google Maps to Banceithin.

Beautiful cottage
Lovely cottage so peaceful. Everything you need like home from home. Lovely to meet all the animals. The home cooked food which you can purchase from the freeze in the games room is a must, the cottage pie was yummy so was the mushroom rogan Josh. Handy folder there to look up places to go and beaches to see. Post codes and parking for other places would be handy had to go on Internet to find which was a pain because had to go outside to the wifi hot spot 😕 only other negative was that we thought a welcome pack would be good just things like coffee milk so you could have a cuppa when you got there. Would of been nice to say goodbye when we left but they wasn't around.. did knock the door but no answer so had to leave keys in the cottage 😕

West Wales at its best.
Our 4th visit and we've booked a 5th. Holiday accommodation doesn't get any better than this. When you arrive you are greeted with a personalised welcome sign and homemade Bara Brith. The cottage is warm, stylish, comfortable and well equipped but if you don't fancy cooking there are always Philippa's delicious ready meals in the freezer. Starry skies, birdsong and beautiful, unspoilt scenery make this a delightful, eco friendly place to stay. We are full of admiration for what David and Philippa have achieved.

Beautiful, quaint, relaxing and personal.
To put it simply, Banceithin is a wonderful little place. My girlfriend and I spent a weekend there in the hen ffermdy cottage for her 21st birthday and we immediately fell in love with it. Quaint, homely and personal, the cottage is a beautiful blend of modern and vintage designs - the woodburner, the huge selection of classic board games and the truly ancient vinyl player with its accompanying box of records were personal highlights. Even the mezzanine bedroom, with its low bed and slanted roof, felt incredibly cosy. The spiral staircase that lead up to it too was great. It just exuded character. There was also something incredibly serene about waking up in the morning and watching the free-roaming chickens waddle about your feet as you ate a breakfast made from fresh locally sourced produce, while Frank Sinatra spinned away on the vinyl player. Coming from more rural suburbs of Manchester it felt a world away from what we were used to. You don't really get that in Trafford or Rochdale where we're from. It made a most welcome change. The views of the glades around the cottage are gorgeous. Animals, green hills everywhere - almost Tolkien-like. The whole farmyard, and credit must go to the owners David and Phillipa for this, was basically left open for us to wonder around at our will. It felt like a little adventure, and we were even joined by their friendly farmyard Collie, Terri, on occasion. A lovely little doggy - playful, alert and one that took great pleasure in keeping a watchful eye on the (friendly and ultimately amusing) chickens foraging about looking for any scraps they could find at our feet while we ate breakfast in the sun. We popped along at will to visit the pigs and lambs who happily gawped at us as we paid them the attention that they clearly loved and we also frequented the games room near the bottom of the drive near our house. Another fantastic addition. Freshly cooked meals were left in a huge freezer inside the games-room that we could take at will (they operated on an honesty policy and we picked up the tab at the end of our stay), as well as a collection of homemade jams made by Dave and Phillipa, other treats and local beers and ales. All were just sat there accessible at any point alongside the ping pong table, the dart board, the huge collection of boardgames and jigsaws and on the other side of a wall that contained a huge variety of outdoor-ey kinda accessories. Wellies, bikes and even a BBQ and hammock for the treehouse on the grounds were all available for use at any time. They thought of everything basically. Their self-created 'Banceithin Bible' in the cottage was excellent. Can't quite state how detailed it is - it includes more or less EVERYTHING you could possibly want to know about the local area, the facilities on site, stuff like where the best beaches were, including info, descriptions and reviews of each nearby beach with all of them allocated a 'DAP award' (Dave and Phillipa) for its own little quirks. Even handy diagrams how to use their oven and so on. We loved the attention to detail. Everything was covered and everything was crystal clear. Priceless stuff to anyone who didn't know the area or how to start a woodfire or even use a vinyl player - it probably informative to some that did know as well. As it was my girlfriend's birthday I even secretly coerced with them without her knowing to organise a few little surprises on arrival. I posted some little bits up to them in advance and they happily got involved, decorating the cottage with bunting and balloons for us, even putting some wildflowers in a vase for her with a little card too. Honestly, I can't speak highly enough of things like this. I genuinely got the impression that they cared. It's rare that you'll get to stay somewhere as homely and as well thought out as Banceithin. It's a delightful hidden treat of a place and regardless of how old you are, be it in your 20s like we are, or many years older, its wonderful. Great local food (the fresh bread, breakfast hamper and fruit bowls we ordered were delicious), beautiful views and just an incredibly friendly, cosy and fun place to be. Only thing we were gutted about was that we only got to spend three nights there. Ah there's always time for another trip...

Delightful cottages in a beautiful area
Dave and Philippa have done a wonderful job of turning two derelict farm buildings into comfortable, stylish holiday cottages with a low carbon footprint. It was a real pleasure to stay here and enjoy their hospitality. Their information folder has to be seen to be believed - it is so comprehensive and up to date. There are all kinds of treats on their smallholding, including new born lambs and playful piglets. We loved it.

Welsh Cottage proves Eco can be cosy, too!
A lovely stone barn conversion cottage - it's a really pretty holiday home with your own garden area and chickens running free. Owners are eco concerned and have heating on a pellet burner & solar back up and a reed bed drainage system in place. They are really doing a good job to set up a small farmstead which is part of the community. A lovely peaceful spot - the owners have even set up a bird watching hide with blankets. You are free to roam around to see the pig or sheep and the allotment area. The main thing is the peace and tranquility - will you really want to return to the busy town? Borth beach and nature reserve is a must visit as is all the lovely little seaside places of West Wales. Aberystwyth is a joy with wide beach, shopping areas and a ruined castle area and gardens. NT Llancheron is nearby and Dolocauthi Gold Mines is a definite must do - don't miss out on a tour! Take advantage of the 'meals service' provided - frozen meats and meals made up for guests can be purchased very reasonably from the owners deep freeze. There is also a novel market stall shed where you can buy delicious jams & preserves. Dark skies, peace and quiet and a cosy cottage with many garden bird visitors - enjoy!
