Find time to fit in a ferry ride or two as well, to Dartmouth or Brixham. Babbacombe is a gem - away from the huslte and bustle and the bars of the quayside in Torquay but with its own eateries and spectacular views. Asthe locals say, whatever the season, a walk across the Downs is an uplifting start to the day. More

Interaction with guests: We live less than a mile away and can be there if needed to sort any issues that may arise. We are rarely away when we have guests though it does happen and we have a local contact for those cases. Guests see themselves in and we leave them in peace unless there is a need for us to be there. Very occasionally we may need to cut the grass while they are out or access the shed to remove refuse but we ask if this is ok when we do.

Home away from home
This was our second stay at this cottage, and it was just as good as our first. Everything you might need is supplied, from kitchen utensils to children's bucket and spade; linens and furnishings are high quality; everything was spotless. Tessa is a great host. There are beaches, shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance and Torquay and Paignton a short drive/bus ride away. We're already planning our return.

All you could ever want ..
Wonderful, pretty cottage just steps away from beautiful Babbacombe Downs. The owner has taken great care with many thoughtful touches, to ensure total comfort; and has anticipated every need. Quality is everywhere - in the furniture, soft furnishings, fixtures and fittings - and everything works just as it should. The cottage is a delight to stay in - we've stayed 4 times now, and only wish we could pick it up and move it to our own town!

Spotless, spacious and perfectly equipped cottage near the sea
We felt at home as soon as we unpacked. Brilliantly situated within walking distance of beaches, cafes, restaurants, pubs, Babbacombe Downs, theatre, shops, model village and Kents Cavern. Just round the corner is a bus stop with a regular service to Torquay and Paignton. Off street parking space was a godsend. Cottage itself was spacious, spotless, and well equipped with everything you might need. Marketing description and photos are an accurate representation. Tessa is a great host. We can't wait to come back to Babbacombe and St George's Cottage again!

Perfect, in all ways
St George is a very lovely cottage and Tessa an excellent host. The cottage is very well equipped, clean and comfortable and Tessa has provided many things I've not found in other rentals, even down to a small sewing repair kit! It is in a great location with many amenities nearby. So many tea rooms, restaurants and bars that offer a wide variety of food. Hanburys fish and chips are delicious and their gluten free batter was the best I've tasted. Local attractions such as the Model Village, Cliff Railway and Babbacombe Theatre are minutes away. Babbacombe and Oddicombe beaches are not far, but there is a very steep climb back, the Cliff Railway comes in handy here! There is a very good bus service into Torquay and Paignton and also one out to Dawlish Warren. The SW coastal path is nearby and we also enjoyed a number of local walks around the area. The Downs are a wonderful place just to sit and watch the world go by with lovely views out to sea and of course to sit and enjoy an ice cream or two! We had a thoroughly relaxing stay and would love to visit again some time.

Outstanding
We had a great time at St George's cottage. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and the actual cottage any nicer. Fantastic location and size for three people and two dogs. Local area also great although alittle quiet but that's because of the time of year. Would definitely rebook.

What a great place to stay
Three 60 year olds visited Torquay for the first time. We stayed at this wonderful cottage in up market Babbacombe. What a great area and St.George was a gem. Every comfort of home and parking on the premises is a bonus. The owner, Tess, is so obliging and willing to make sure everything is perfect. Even left a welcome card. Absolutely perfect.

Beautiful Cottage & Best location
We have had a fantastic holiday! A beautiful Cottage with such a lovely feel to it, we relaxed immediately. Great location for long dog walks over the hills with amazing sea views for us and lots of dog pals for Monty too!! There is a little dog friendly beech on your door step where Monty had his first ever proper swim in the sea. Everyone we met was so friendly we really didn't want to come away - planning another trip soon!!

The best self catering accomodation we have ever stayed in.
St George cottage had every amenity you could want in a holiday home. Tessa had thought of every single thing to make our stay perfect. We liked that it had off street parking and that it was so conveniently positioned and only a short bus ride into Torquay. We will certainly return to St.George Cottage.

Delighted the cottage was enjoyed. Our own family love to use it and it has become something of a hobby keeping it lovely as a peaceful retreat. Anybody aiming for a holiday in Babbacombe has to have parking.

About the neighbourhood
Babbacombe and Torquay are part of the Torbay area and include Paignton - a visit to the zoo is a must - and the charming fishing port of Brixham with its replica Golden Hind. Ferries are available in the summer to take visitors to Dartmouth, well worth a visit, and of course the Agatha Christe house Greenway is an easy drive, unless you want to take the vintage bus, steam train or bus.The Bay is well known for its palms and temperate climate, though be prepared for a coastal breeze and occasional sea mists - that's when to head for one of the beach cafes for a hot chocolate or a cream tea at Widecombe in the Moor. Totnes is also a popular destination - the Friday market is particularly good. Devon is well known for its moors, picturesque villages and coastal scenery was well as for its history and geology. There are numerous beauty spots and local walking groups are always keen to welcome visitors. The cathedral city of Exeter is a pleasant 30 minute drive.Within a short walking distance of St George cottage is a diving centre. The witches hat shaped rock at Ansteys Cove is well known to climbers. Visitors can try all manner of watersports. About 400 m from the cottage is a disability shop where mobility scooters are available for hire.Plainmoor football ground is about half a kilometre from Babbacombe. There is something for everyone!
Getting around
Very good bus services with stops conveniently close by. There are the usual tourist buses too. There are country buses such as the Haytor Hoppa which will take you to Dartmoor. Perhaps most fun is with thebferries. these are remarkably inexpensive and a trip to Brixham or Dartmouth is great fun. Train to Exeter or Exmouth or Plymouth is easy. A lovely day out is to go to St Ives by rail. A few changes but real Enid Blyton country along the route. Cycle paths also good with several cycle trials and a velodrome.

Car not needed
How to get there
Visitors driving from the North are advised to approach Babbacombe via Teignmouth for a more scenic drive in along the coast. Full instructions are given after booking. A taxi fare from Torquay station to Babbacombe is approximately £7 (2017)
