Even closer to hand, numerous old-style pubs provide hearty lunchtime and evening meals plus traditional ales. Some of those nearby have a beer garden. For City workers the Bank of England is a 15min or so walk. Lovers of West End theatre, music and dining can reach Charing Cross (with Covent Garden and Soho beyond) on foot in under half an hour. The end of the street is served by a 24-hour bus and is surrounded by a handful of underground stations including Northern (both branches), Bakerloo and Jubilee lines. Daily provisions are available from two mini-supermarkets (Co-op and Tesco) within about 100 yards/metres of the door, each of which is usually open until 11pm.More

About the neighbourhood
Borough and Bankside together form the area just south of the Thames between Waterloo and London Bridge stations and north of Elephant & Castle. Amid the stunning height of the new Shard of Glass to the atmospheric side streets where Charles Dickens strolled 200 years ago lies an historic yet constantly vibrant inner London district that offers great pubs, restaurants and other leisure amenities.
