Fully equipped and very unusual this one bedroom maisonette has been converted from a former London Shoemaker's workshop. With newly installed Wi-Fi. There is a nearby Boris Bike hire station and direct transport links to Knightsbridge, Kensington (museums & Palace), Notting Hill, Hyde Park, Piccadilly & Oxford Street less than 1 minute away, including the new Routemaster buses. Transport to City of London, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and West End theatres approx. 5 mins away. Also close to Queenstown Road Battersea Rail Station (4 mins to Waterloo).and for day trips to such places as Hampton Court Palace, Windsor, Brighton and the South Coast. A very convenient local store will meet most of your holiday needs and there are other local shops, supermarkets, PO. A pub, various restaurants and takeaways including one serving, in our opinion, some of the best Fish & Chips in London are within a five minute walk. More

Stayed in Old shoemakers shop for 5 nights. Susie isna lovely host. She gave us clear directions so our arrival went smoothly, met Susie for key and she left contact number.in case we had any queries during our stay. Accommodation is on a quiet street, 1.min to corner shop and main bus routes so it's just 15 mins up to Sloane Square or 10.mins to Clapham. There are also a few good restaurants within walking distance. The house was spotlessly clean and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Living area with sofa bed upstairs is very comfortable and lovely large windows onto street. Downstairs the bedroom and bathroom are perfect and again are very clean and comfortable. We would love to stay at this Accommodation again if available 😃

This is the coolest rental my wife and I have ever stayed in, hands down. Susie was super helpful and easy to communicate with, and check in was easy and informative. The apartment was clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the quirkiness of the space, it’s an impressive transformation from an actual shoemaker’s shop into a functional apartment. It was easy to get into central London via the tube, and there are a couple nice coffee shops along the way. It’s also walking distance from 3 cool breweries, and the area is worth exploring.

We booked this stay through booking.com The location is amazing (a supermarket and a bus stop right around the corner) The owner was nice, kind and helpful. She told us everything we needed to know about the amenities/ house and the neighborhood upon our arrival and answered our questions. Regarding the house: Everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. Of course it’s hot in the summer but that’s not the owner’s fault. The windows are big and can be opened. The kitchen was well equipped and fully functional. It’s a nice little house in a calm/safe residential area. The owner also provided a map and other useful things for tourists.

I really enjoy meeting guests at the beginning of their stay and it is always very gratifying to see the nice remarks people leave in my guest book or online about The Old Shoemaker's Shop. I don't often get to meet again afterwards so it way a pleasure to see you and your sons again on departure and learn how much you enjoyed your stay in London and at The Old Shoemaker's Shop. Hope to see you again. PS I know you found no problem with the sofa bed but have invested in new one for the New Year.

My husband, adult daughter and I booked this property for 14 days. We only lasted one night. It was way too stuffy for us and the mould set my asthma and allergies off. The property is essentially two triangular shaped spaces with a steep stair case between. The lower space is essentially underground. The Trip advisor photo is taken from the corner (apex of triangle) and the distance between the front (and only) door (right hand side of photo) and the toilet door (left hand side of the photo - yes - right next to the kitchen sink) is about 4 meters. The windows on the right hand side of the photo are nearly directly on the street and as there are no bars on the windows you cannot leave anything close to the open windows. The windows can be locked open about 15 cm for 'ventilation' overnight. One corner of the below ground space has a window/fire escape with stairs leading up to the footpath. With the window open there is no security. There was so much dirt on the stairs from the street that leaving the window open just lets in dust. Not that there was much air flow in the property - granted it was a hot day for London. Due to the property being enclosed on two of its three sides and having only limited window opening whilst maintaining security air flow is extremely limited. We used the washing machine/dryer (the whole reason you stay in an apartment is so you can do your own laundry and cook your own food) and there was no way for the hot air to escape - except into the stifling hot and stuffy property. The owner suggested that I should not have used the washer/dryer if I was concerned about the heat. She knew what times I had used the machine. Hate to think what would have happened to the temperature if we had used the stove/oven. It was already hotter inside this property than outside. The owner told us that the lower floor had been flooded. The water from the shower room (and that's all it is) has to be pumped (yes - the pump is noisy) upstairs and if there is a power failure or if the drain is blocked it flood the lower level. The owner told us that the pump also operates when it rains as water accumulates outside the downstairs window come fire escape. The pump is located under the bed. You could smell the mould most strongly in the downstairs space - which is where the main bed is located. The black lounge you see is the sofa bed which is not very comfortable especially in hot weather and with only one layer of linen on it. Speaking of linen - it had that still wet/not dried quickly enough musty smell. We had to use the second weeks linen as there was only bottom sheet and a doona provided and with temperatures in the 30s and no ventilation we could not use the doona. The towels also had a musty smell. The downstairs bed is a double and it is an old fashioned lumpy spring mattress. Wifi works well. TV quality very poor. The streets in this part of London are quite dirty. Many properties having rubbish piling up in the front yards. The rubbish from the previous occupants was at the front of this property. We informed the owner that we would be leaving the property and she made no attempt to relist the property for the remaining 13 days. We did not receive a refund. We had to wait the full time for our deposit to be refunded.

There was a young woman from Perth Who was desirous of a humbler berth But after Auld Reekie and the Grand Mine was more than she could stand The delivery of groceries was needed Oh dear if she could only have heeded My advice, on the very short skips and hops To the really good local shops But like my usual Miss nice guy I told her where she could online buy To them my phone number was passed Without me even being asked Good heaven, it’s ordered for between 6 and 7 (am!!) That first night the weather was stifling But my instructions to open the windows thought trifling The prospect was deemed far too frightening Whilst the rest of us just had to weep If due to the heat, much of London couldn’t sleep My tenant viewed it as a bare con That there was no air con Cor blimey, she complained of imaginary Flora or Fauna But she’s turned my place into a sauna Blissfully unaware of the unfolding drama Now I’m being accused of seeking to harm ‘er If only all could have remained so much calmer The beds were not to her liking The shape of the building she found less than striking She hated the layout inside And was critical of the type of linen, we in this country provide But although not at all keen She did at least point out - it is very clean Surely the arrival of the food Would lift and alter her mood One would have thought she should have been relieved Oh dear, the volume of 25 bags worth of shopping has to be seen to be believed My poor domestic fridge was maligned If I were it I would have resigned It was all too traumatic If only it could turn into a large Baumatic She was happy at the meet and greet But since even complains about the street I’m usually on hand To help and understand But this family gave me no quarter And that they really oughter Instead of allowing any chance For me, their experience to enhance They upped and left that day Contacting me for the first time as they went on their way And that was the end of their intended two week stay Too busy to contact me she said Well I’m sorry then, but you’ve made your own bed If you choose to up sticks and go it’s hardly a payment in kind To leave half of your 34 toilet rolls behind If alive were our dear Mr Priestley His inspector might think it just as beastly That a well off family today could still have such sway To do harm to that which is good, and betray The purpose of a review for revenge in that way Sorry Joanne but you’ll have to allow me a couple of inaccuracies in my first para here by way of artistic licence as you’ve used so many in your hit and run of a review. I think you were living in Sydney when you stayed with me and I know it was another 5 star not the Grand but this was so much easier to find a rhyme for.

A very compact apartment, the owner has covered every need. Short walks to busses and trains that take you to the heart of London. Quiet location and a great little supermarket only 50 metres away.

Stayed for a week in Dec 2015 and we were very pleased indeed with our choice of accomodation. It is exactly as described in the ad, and immaculately clean. Susie provided a lot of advice prior to our stay, and in the apartment there are large number of maps and brochures on attractions in London, this was really helpful. Stayed with husband and two kids aged 14 and 11 who shared the sofa bed quite comfortably. Wifi was good and reliable, the property is well located to transport, has cooking and washing facilities, and we could not have asked for more. Would definitely recommend.

I stayed for 10 days with my wife and 11 month old baby. The apartment is very comfortable and warm. It is very big for London and also very quiet. It is well located being close to a bus stop which can take you to Kensington Museums and into Oxford Circus. There is an overground train close and buses to Clapham Common which will get to you to the tube in 10 minutes. Clapham Common is great for cafes and the park is lovely to run around. Also Brixton is close by which has colourful markets and many cool places to eat and drink. Battersea Park is within walking distance and is wonderful for kids. There is a well equipped convenience store about 50 metres from the apartment and a couple of larger supermarkets within 10 minutes walk or 2 minutes by bus. Suzie was very helpful when we arrived and throughout our stay. I would recommend this apartment to other travellers.

My two sisters and I stayed for just under 3 weeks in this apartment. It was very tidy, cozy and in a great location! Public transport, convenient store & a number of restaurants / takeaways are located just around the corner. Wifi was installed at the start of our stay which was great! Susie (Owner) was so helpful, left tonnes of information for us to look at. Hopefully we will be back to stay in the future. I would recommend this apartment to anyone. Thanks for a great stay!

About the neighbourhood
The immediate area is Victorian urban London with brick terraces forming an interesting diamond shape dissected by the broad but surprisingly quiet Queenstown Road which, especially at night, provides a stunning view of the Iconic Power Station immortalised with the addition of a floating pig on the Pink Floyd album. Head in that direction along Queenstown Road back towards the railway station and Chelsea Bridge and about 7 minutes later you will reach Battersea Park. This park has it all. Cafes, a lake with wildfowl, small boating lake, children's zoo, flower gardens, regular art exhibitions and fairs, tennis courts and sporting fields, watch the local cricket team in action and then take in the beautiful views across the Thames to the Royal Hospital Chelsea where the annual flower s...
