Summary: lovely cosy suite with delicious hamper, and beautiful views, in a secluded location run by delightful hosts. Strongly recommended by me.
Should have written this last year or previous years, but have my annual visit to Wales and we always stay here, so pulling my finger out before we turn up again soon. Apologies for failing to do so previously!
I/we've been visiting Brecon area for years annually, and have stayed at Tegfan Garden Suite since the first coats of paint had just dried and it was a B&B, (it's now self-catering).
Location:
The House and it's Garden Suite is just outside a fascinating old Victorian hospital complex, 1/2 mile or so SE of Talgarth, in the foothills of the Black Mountains. It's only immediate neighbours are the hosts' parents' house, who have their own 'crazy golf' course that one can play.
One can walk to the property from Talgarth village, along a pretty country lane or through the hospital, where one's imagination can take flight, especially if it's dark, and Halloween season!
Property:
The Garden Suite is a sweet (!) building separate to the big house where the hosts Helen & John live.
There's plenty of parking off road.
The expansive windows let in the morning sun, and look through their garden down the side of their house, and on toward the Black Mountains beyond, such an impressive view. However, it's very private despite the large windows, because the family don't seem to use that stretch of lawn, their private garden being out of site. The suite has its own garden table and chairs, though it's usually too cold when I've visited.
Accommodation:
A very spacious open plan room, and immaculate separate bathroom, there is a comfortable double bed in one corner (never can remember bed sizes might be a king, but big enough for two of us with bad backs), a dining/breakfast table, snazzy well equipped fitted kitchen and a sitting room area with TV and sofa (it's a sofa bed if needed for spogs etc). John apparently is in IT, so WiFi has never been a problem for us.
The suite is very comfortable, immaculately clean, cosy and warm in the late autumn, when we usually visit.
Welcome:
Helen and John are perfect hosts! The welcomes are always very warm and after a long drive, just what you hope for. We have got to know them over the years and they are lovely.
As a B&B they always had welcome treats and essentials for us, and now as self-catering, a lovely hamper stuffed with homemade and local produce. It's essential to point out Helen is a chef, running her own business making delicious handmade preserves, of which we've bought a number of jars over the years, so there's been examples of her products included. They are proper foodies, so everything in the hamper was obviously carefully selected, delicious and plentiful.
Whenever we've wanted advice about things to do locally, or places to walk, they both are very glad to help and always have come up trumps, going out of their way at times.
Thanks to Helen & John for all the stays over the years.
