Armitage House is on the seafront and was probably built around 1830 at the same time as the nearby harbour was being developed.

The house is comfortable and well proportioned. It was completely renovated in 2014 and has 2 large double rooms, 3 twin rooms, a bathroom, 2 shower rooms and a downstairs cloakroom.

The large kitchen-dining room has an Aga while the sitting room has a wood burning stove. There is a separate utility room.

All the main rooms have sea views and there is character throughout the house - particularly the upper landing and the eaves rooms with their cozy low sloped ceilings. There is also a private walled garden at the rear.

There is unrestricted on street parking.

I organised a trip to stay at the Armitage house in Newcastle County Down for my whole family when my sister was visiting us in England from Australia . We booked the house for 4 days and basically didn’t leave it because everything was so perfect . The ocean views are stunning and the house is immaculate in every way...

Where do I start, found Armitage in October 2016' fell in love with the house so beautiful renovated, everything of highest standards, booked for 12 first two weeks July 2017. About the neighbourhood
You can walk in the Donard forest behind/above the house, Tollymore in Bryansford and Castlewellan (both about a 10 min drive) - along the river in Tollymore, round the lake in Castlewellan. Castlewellan also has a number of off-road bike trails and you can hire bikes from Life in the old stable block.

There are walks through the sand dunes at Murlough (NT) Nature reserve – by the twelve arches bridge halfway between Newcastle and Dundrum.

Bloody Bridge a few miles down the coast has paths – rock hopping and scrambling is great fun if it is dry.

There is a smart Spa at the Slieve Donard Hotel and Soak Seaweed baths close to the house are well recommended. Burrendale Hotel on the Castlewellan Road has a pool and more modest spa.
