Rafeen is a meticulously restored and artfully decorated Bajan home that boasts all modern conveniences. Three air-conditioned bedrooms, generous living/ dining space, a country kitchen, and an exclusive pool and patio area set the stage for gracious holiday living. Dear guests, Welcome. We are delighted to host you at Rafeen and hope that your stay will be wonderful. Please do let Catherine know if there is anything you need to make you more comfortable. First a little history so that you understand where you are and the story of this delightful and quirky house. Rafeen is a 180 year old historic house located in a UNESCO World Heritage site. The building was actually part of the military Garrison which together with our neighbours Geneva (a single storey building at the time), and Letchworth House were built as the Ordnance Hospital and later used as the soldier’s library. Rafeen was built on a parcel of land comprising 13,744 sq. feet with frontage onto the Garrison road. The original Ordnance Hospital was sold by the War Dept.in 1905 when the Imperial forces departed from Barbados, and the house came into private ownership in 1921 from the government of Barbados. The Cottage at the end of the garden is built on a plot of land acquired later. Rafeen is listed by the Barbados National Trust as a building of historic interest and the whole Garrison area was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2016. Several artefacts from military times were found when Rafeen was renovated about 40 years ago and these are preserved for you to see in a frame in the dining room. Rafeen came into our lives 10 years ago. We had arrived in Barbados for a ‘senior gap year’ with our three children then 2, 3 and 5. We fell in love with Barbados and decided that we would stay for the whole year – who would have guessed that our planned world travel with three under-fives was a bad idea? – We needed a place to stay long-term. We met the owners and succumbed to the magic of Rafeen. We made it our home and tried to keep the original old-world charm, simultaneously creating a more modern and comfortable living environment. We installed the pool and the air-conditioning and over the years have learned the quirks and foibles of the house as each stage of maintenance and renovation has been undertaken, culminating in a new roof last year. We hope that you will love Rafeen as much as we do and return as often as you can for peaceful escape from city living. Rafeen house is full of charm and character. The foot-thick coral stone walls ensure that the inside remains cool during the day and the large gardens give many opportunities for relaxation and alfresco living. Rafeen house is a perfect holiday location for a family or a small group of friends seeking a quiet holiday with access to all that Barbados has to offer. More

About the neighbourhood
Rafeen is situated in a peaceful spot , it is positioned well back from the road around the Savannah and is set amongst beautiful large trees and shrubs. It is listed by the Barbados National Trust as a building of historic interest . With coral walls over a foot the house is very cool and pleasant with large reception areas , comfortable sized bedrooms and a rustic kitchen. Having survived the hurricane of 1833 it was once used as an Ordance Hospital for the British military until it was purchased privately in 1921.
Getting around
Renting a car is a good idea but the bus routes on Highway seven are a two minute walk from the property. Local bus fare is BDS$2 or US$1. Bus routes will take you as far as Bridgetown and further south up to Oistins.
