Poggio Etrusco is a privately owned organic farm near Montepulciano, located in southern Tuscany, halfway between Florence and Rome. The owners are Pamela Sheldon Johns (a cookbook author) and Johnny Johns (an artist). On 15 acres, this property is an active oliveto with over 800 olive trees and production of an exceptional organic extra-virgin olive oil, sangiovese wine, and several fruit crops. Staying on a working farm gives you a sense of Italian life and how connected to the seasons it is.

We stayed at Poggio Etrusco for three nights in September. It's a beautiful haven in the Tuscan countryside with a rustic, bohemian edge. Wild olives, tomatoes, and figs grow in the gorgeous verdant gardens, and the house is a beautiful old building restored with great...More

We stayed here one week. The location is convenient to several popular towns - Montepulciano (30 min), Pienza (30 min), Cortona (50 min), Montelcino (1 hour). The landscaping/gardens are lush and green with a lovely view over a valley and the location quiet and calm....More

About the neighbourhood
Poggio Etrusco is in the countryside outside of Montepulciano, in southern Tuscany, halfway between Florence and Rome. A rental car is recommended, as we are 2 kilometers from the village, and also because there is so much to see in our area! Car rentals are available at our nearest train station (Chiusi), and also from local rental companies (info on request).

Closest airports are Rome, Florence, and Pisa, which also have car rental agencies.

We are in the production area of great wines! Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and very close to Brunello DOCG. Pecorino Toscano, sheeps' milk cheese is another specialty of the area. Pamela is happy to help you organize visits and tastings to the best artisanal producers, with emphasis on tradition and organic, when possible.
