Review of my booking 26th October to 5th November 2018. (2 adults, 2 kids age 5 & 6)
Booking was easy, the owner provided lots of helpful detail about the area. She was also very quick to respond to my queries.
Transfer from airport to property took 30 mins (though it felt more like 15 mins with the speed the taxi guy was driving!) For this visit I'd already pre-booked a private taxi transfer but next time we stay we'll just be getting a taxi from airport - it's cheaper and there were lots available outside airport. Taxi rank is also right next to the property for the return to airport with taxi’s constantly available no matter what time of day. Easy.
Upon arrival we found a complimentary bowl of fruit and a bottle of wine which was a nice touch and much appreciated. Had to send my other half straight out to find milk and water before the shops closed as we were on a late flight and the clocks had gone back. Thankfully he found one after a bit of a hunt in the dark. Turns out there are shops all around the property, just couldn’t find them so easily in the dark.
First impression of the property - it had everything we needed, clean linens, Wi-Fi, Sky TV, Good storage, Washing machine, Plenty of clean towels, etc., and there were books and board games too which I thought was a lovely touch. The place was clean (apart from a couple of small scuffs on the kids bedroom wall) and had everything you could possibly need. It actually felt really cosy in the evenings with lots of low lighting lamps and comfy sofa, perfect to cwtch up on with my kiddies after a day at the beach.
After putting the kids down to sleep we went to relax on veranda and it was at that point I fell in love with this property. The veranda is open, with a cover to give you a break from too much the sun, plenty of seating and loungers to relax on. You have views of the sea to the left, and to the right you have a view of people walking by, just enough to satisfy any need to 'people watch' without their passing by feeling intrusive at all... Perfectly placed shrubbery means they can't look back in on you and it feels very private. With the distant sound of the waves breaking, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind with a nice bottle of wine.
We got a really good night sleep in the big comfy beds. Needed a blanket to sleep on sofa in the night due to my other half snoring, but none available. Senor Verona knocked the door the next morning to check all was ok and had one brought round straight away. He is a lovely guy, really helpful. He knocked a couple of times during our stay to see if there was anything we needed (we didn't) and he gave some good suggestions about the area in which we were staying. Sheets and towels were replaced mid stay.
The location couldn't be better. Its in the best part of Maspalomas beach and central to everything you need. Lots of restaurants close by offer a full cooked breakfast (4 euros) enough to fill us up for a day at the beach, which is a few steps away from the house, literally at your door. This place is perfect if you have young children like us. You can just nip back from the beach to the house for anything you need.
The beach itself is enormous. It had massive waves in certain areas which were great for body boarding and very exciting for my 6 year old, but also had parts that were safe for toddlers. Take note of the flags on the beach, when the yellow flag is up the waves are very big! I had slight worries before I came when people talked about the naked beach and 'dune activities', only since I have young children, but these are a good walk away and when we did walk past the 'nudies' with our kids it wasn't in your face at all, they actually have their own secluded part of the beach. We also had a morning walk through the dunes too and didn't spot anything offensive for my kids at all. We took day trips to Mogan beach and the much-loved Amadoras beach but after being on our huge Maspalomas beach those two seemed more overcrowded. (Probably with it being a bank holiday over there). We had one very windy day which meant sand on Maspalomas beach was getting blown quite wildly across the beach so we took advantage of the private pool, which was a little sun trap and was well covered on the sides so you didn't notice any of the wind at all.
There are a lots of restaurants close to property, serving all types of food, all along the beach. Cactus do great breakfasts and lunch menu at 5 euros each, 4 euros for the kids. Really friendly waiters there. Lots of shops selling everything you could need for your trip away. Restaurante Escaleritas does the most divine steak in pepper sauce for an evening meal, but the best restaurant for me was Samsara, just up the road from the apartment. Hands down the best duck I've ever eaten, lovely atmosphere, and gorgeous restaurant too. You need to pre-book as it's understandably in great demand. We spent 120 euros on our evening meal and drinks for 4 and it was worth every penny.
Lots to do in the area. Transport costs around the island are quite reasonable, we took a taxi to Mogan for 22 euros each way. Next time we tried the bus from the bus stop at the end of the road, which goes directly to Mogan market. It was cheaper at just 16 euros each way for 4 of us. Angry Birds Park in Mogan is also well worth visit for a good day out with young kids, and just up the road is Holiday World which is a fab amusement park. 30 euros gave 5 kids about 2 hours’ worth of entertainment. We planned to do more day trips but the kids loved Maspalomas beach so much we spent most of our time there, meaning a very relaxing holiday for us as parents.
The weather was just fantastic for end of October/early November - weather websites in UK were saying 21 degrees but actually closer to 26/28 degrees most days. Got myself a nice tan without having to worry too much about the heat for the kids.
Without a doubt we absolutely loved this holiday and we'll definitely be booking Yasmine's place next time we come so we can do it all again.
