Snorkelers will find a veritable nursery of tropical fish, an occasional turtle and at special times, even some playful dolphins. The Turtle Room featured here (and the Triggerfish Room in a separate listing) is designed for couples, with a queen bed, ceiling fan, air conditioning, TV and DVD player. Each unit also has microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. Guests enjoy high quality linens and many of the extras that make a vacation comfortable. The new, complete, open-air kitchen is adjacent to the guest units and is fully equipped for easy meals and drink libations. Each unit has its own private deck area (with ocean view) for lounging and dining. Families and couples traveling together can enjoy getting together for meals or socializing on a central deck area overlooking the beach. We enjoy providing personalized service and can arrange for meal reservations, island transportation, and guides for fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Although Grotto Bay is very secluded, it’s just a short stroll to restaurants, two grocery stores, a liquor store, car rental and gas station.. We welcome children, and our guests have full access to the beach horseshoe pit, single and tandem kayaks and paddle boards. Grotto Bay is a truly unique property with its tropical gardens and sculptures and a three-chambered underground cave system featuring stalactites and stalagmites and five species of bats. Rising from the beautiful grotto are banana palms, papayas and avocado. The first week in June is a special time here. For three days the Long Island Regatta unfolds right off of our beach. Guests can settle into a beach chair, dig their toes in the sand, watch the sailboats line up, and then listen for the gun that starts the races. You’ll have the best seat on the island for watching these Bahamian-built, traditional sailboats, reminiscent of the days when they served as lifelines to other islands. Without a doubt, Long Island is certainly the friendliest of all the Out-Islands, and one of the most beautiful. We’d like to share it with you!

It felt like a 2nd home
This was our first time with Jean and Kris at Grotto Bay and we can’t praise it enough. We had such a wonderful time from start to finish and especially Jean was always there to help us make it a fantastic and personal experience. We got a true glimpse of the Long Island spirit and will definitely come back and visit, hopefully at Grotto Bay again.

Made an island we love even better!
My husband and I usually travel to Long Island with our family and hadn't stayed at Grotto Bay before. This was our first trip to the island without the kids. Jean and Kris were wonderful hosts. Their rooms and beach are beautiful. We loved cooking in the outdoor kitchen, grilling lobster on the beach and taking in the beautiful scenery. We couldn't have asked for a better get away. We can't wait to return with the kids!

It's serene and peaceful with excellent hosts to guide you !
We just finished 8 days at Grotto Bay ( 4 of us ) and we're delighted in the experience. Jeannie & Kris are wonderful people who were excited to give us advice and set us up with guides - restaurant reservations or whatever else we required. I would highly recommend Grooto Bay. Long Islsnd is truly a gem with the nicest open people in the Bahamas. Great fishing, site seeing and very very laid back but with good food and snorkeling or diving. Go here if you like serenity !

Lovely Hideaway on Long Island
We instantly fell in love with Grotto Bay! The house and beach are set up beautifully with lots of thought put into layout and decoration. The private beach has umbrellas and palmtrees that offer shade when hanging out in the hammocks or beds. Plenty of equipment is available such as snorkeling and diving gear as well as kajaks and paddle boards etc. The rooms come with aircon,Fan, fridge, coffee machine and tv for dvds. There is also a great outdoor kitchen that offers everything you need to cook Plus a Weber bbq Grill and an open fire place The perfect get away from all the hustle and bustle back home!

I left my heart in Grotto Bay
Our stay at Grotta Bay was wonderful! Jeannie and Kris are great people and it is easy to tell that they love Long Island. We had luxurious privacy in our comfortable (and so affordable!) beachfront room that was graced with cooling evening breezes. During the day, with the help of Jeannie, we were able to interact with the community of Long Island getting fish from local fisherman, car rentals from their farmer neighbor down the road, and even fresh produce and guava jam at the Farmers' market the Jeannie helped to start! We had fun meeting lots of locals, everyone was friendly and welcoming. We also had fun exploring on our own. Jeannie told us about all of the Long Island secret spots that we often had to ourselves. She provided us with excellent driving directions and high quality snorkel gear, including shorty wet suits, so that we could enjoy all of the fun of the ocean in safety and comfort. And all the gear was included in the lodging fee!! We spent plenty of time right on the beautiful Grotto bay beach where we swam, looked out for amy the resident turtle, had a surprise dolphin spotting, and played with all of the water toys that were free for us as guests to use including kayaks and stand up paddle boards (super fun!). We also were able to relax and prepare meals in the outdoor kitchen, even eating coconuts plucked right from the tree. Other factors that made our stay especially good were being able to walk to two grocery stores, being centrally located on this long skinny island so that it was easy to go north or south for day trips, and having Jeannie arrange reservations for everything from car rentals, to restaurants, to tracking down good local papaya and fish for us! Overall we loved our stay at Grotto Bay and highly recommend it for couples or families.

Paradise Found
This property is absolutely gorgeous! It is right on the water and has its own beach. The room my husband and I occupied was very comfortable and immaculate. I cannot say enough about how wonderful Grotto Bay is as well as how nice the owners are to their guests. Chris and Jeannie took us out on their boat to watch the local sailing regatta and provided us with so much information about Long Island. They also have kayaks and paddleboards you can use while you are staying with them. Don't miss exploring the cave located adjacent to their property. Jeannie gave us flashlights and had a map in the room we could look at before entering. Also, I recommend renting a car for your stay, Jeannie will help you with this, as many of the things to see are located a drive away from the property. Long Island is a beautiful place and if you are looking for a pristine, uncrowded, island adventure stay at Grotto Bay. It is truly a wonderful experience.

Can't wait to go back!
We recently returned from a week at Grotto Bay and it exceeded our expectations in every way - great accommodations, ideal location for exploring, private beach and recreation right at your front door, and everything you need nearby. The accommodations are clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The full outdoor kitchen had everything we could need so it was perfect for self-catering. The nearby grocery stores are small but fully stocked. Prices were comparable to what you would find in a large metropolitan area in the U.S., (like Seattle or Boston). The beach out front is great for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying a drink under the palapa. The owners provide high quality water toys (stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, and snorkeling gear). We also explored the length of the island by car and found the location to be perfectly situated in the middle of the island so everything is a reasonable drive. This was our first trip to the Bahamas and my main goal was to find some self-guided/do-it-yourself bonefishing. We booked a day with a local fishing guide on our own before heading down to the Bahamas, but the owners can arrange one for you too. After this we fished on our own and found great flats within an easy five minute kayak paddle from Grotto Bay. There's another accessible flat a five minute drive away (the owners have our notes and maps) and we saw enough fish on these two nearby spots to keep us busy. There are many other accessible flats on the island too, but we ran out of time to fish them all. I can't say enough about how welcoming and helpful the owners of Grotto Bay are. They helped us make car arrangements in advance, and were always willing to answer questions or provide directions to beaches, restaurants, and attractions on the island. Any time we needed anything (cooler, fish for dinner, flashlights to explore the cave), they were extremely accommodating.

Awesome stay
We stayed at Grotto Bay for a week in May. Salt Pond offers easy access to both ends of the island which you should absolutely explore. We went to numerous beaches and never had other people on them. Long Island doesn't have much to do other than beaches. There are a few restaurants and local markets, but other than that any kind of commerce is non existent. We flew in and out of Deadman's Cay and rented a car from Mr. T. Definitely recommend having a car. I wouldn't recommend Southern air, flights were late and planes iffy. As for our accommodations and hosts we couldn't have been happier. Jeannie and Kris gave us great suggestions and were more than happy to help with car reservations and general questions. The beach at the Grotto Bay is pretty and the water gorgeous. They have kayaks and paddleboards for use with islands close by to paddle to. We definitely recommend Grotto Bay and would go back with no hesitations.

We found an amazing romantic hideaway
We were greeted on long Island by Mr T. he somehow knew who we were and walked us right over to the rental car that the owner Jeannie set up for us. She was not one the Isalnd but when we mentioned her and her husbands names they were very loved and missed on the Island. I want to come back just so I can meet the people that made such an amazing guest house. We love the open space and being right on the private beaches. We never locked the door the whole trip. It just feels safe. We used the canoes to go super life of pi out in the ocean. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen in my life. I had drinks both nights at Su Sides and I feel like Ive made life long friends. This place has an amazing energy and the caves are pretty awesome. If you are not scared of bats you can do it all the way to the 3rd chamber. I cant wait to come back!

About the neighbourhood
Grotto Bay is located in the settlement of Salt Pond, roughly at the center of the island. The property faces west, the calm side of Long Island, where fishing boats and pleasure boats frequently anchor. In just a few minutes by car, guests can also visit beautiful spots on the opposite side, where the surf is more dramatic. Salt Pond has two of the best grocery stores on the island and is the site of the annual sailing Regatta the first full weekend in June. Guests have a front-row seat to the races and are within walking distance to the Regatta site. Our calm cove is perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding (both are complimentary). Angers can even kayak out to one of our nearby uninhabited cays and throw out a line to fighting bonefish or even catch something tasty for dinner! Cook your catch on our new beachfront fire pit and you'll also have a fully-equipped guest kitchen.
