When we arrived, we were given a twin room instead of the double that we had paid for. Even though we asked for this to be changed, it wasnt. The staff were very unhelpful and either sat in the office with the door closed (we had to knock if we needed something) or sat on their phones, on facebook with earphones in. The pool area was littered with construction materials and construction work was taking place directly outside out bathroom window which meant the construction workers could see directly in. The worst thing was that the staff erected a hammock (and sat in it all day) right outside our one very small window and it was so intrusive, we had to have the curtains closed whenever we were in our room. This made it even more dark and dank than it already was. I am unsure how this hotel has been given positive reviews at it really was awful.Â

Stay at Mara Laguna, Ambergris Caye

Condo was great and exactly as shown on vrbo. Very comfortable. Views were amazing with ocean to the front and lagoons to the back.
The beaches were few and far between and all but secret beach were full of smelly sea weed. The smell was everywhere 24/7. Not pleasant.
People everywhere very friendly and spoke English which was a bonus.
Our property manager, Michaela was very pleasant and helpful.

Dust, bad smell, no beach
A very busy road runs between the hotel and the piles of decaying and badly smelling seaweed piles (beach). The room downstairs is in desperate need of renovation. The rooms upstairs are nice. The dust situation caused by the constant Golf Cart and other traffic is almost unbearable. Staff is friendly and helpful.
