As you can see from the pictures of the listing, whether you’re having morning coffee or relaxing with sundowners from the wrap-around veranda, the Ruby Hornbill Cottage has unparalleled views of the surrounding Vumba Mountains and Mozambican valleys below. 2 – Forget about dated DÉCOR. Our cottage has been recently renovated and has a lot of character. Once a working greenhouse, the cottage has been converted into a bright, open-plan space and is tastefully decorated featuring original creations from Zimbabwean artisans. The elevated sleeping loft (with a queen size bed) offers a unique way to take in the sunrise, while you can stargaze from the studio lounge below-- it features an L-shaped sofa that converts into a deluxe queen size bed and a double futon for additional guests. The vintage woodburning stove is perfect for cozy winter’s evenings. 3 – The COFFEE TERRACES and mature garden that surround the cottage are magical. It’s the perfect excuse to spend time outdoors with family and friends any time of the year. You may even spot a silvery-cheeked hornbill or some of our other resident wildlife. Take advantage of the POOL and gazebo area, or have an evening by the FIREPIT/BRAAI. When the wind is right, we highly recommend flying kites on the front lawn. The cottage is equipped with a TV, bluetooth sound system, and media library (movies, series, music). Currently, wifi is not available, so take advantage of 'unplugging' during your trip. The kitchen is furnished with a fridge/freezer, gas stove/oven, coffee press, and all the essentials required to unleash your culinary creativity. There is one bathroom downstairs with a bath and shower and a separate adjoining outdoor shower. Should you be traveling with children, arrangements can also be made for a baby cot, high chair, toys/books, etc… to make your little ones feel at home. A futon can also sleep 1-2 additional guests. A housekeeper is available to clean the space daily, and the property and parking are secured with an alarm system. If there are electricity outages, the cottage has inverter power and a solar geyser for hot waterMore

An excellent location nestled in the hills, surrounded by natural forests and mountains . Between the amazing views, clear air and complete silence could not find a better location close to Vumba! Loads of space for the children to play and a great staff on...More

About the neighbourhood
The Bvumba Mountains straddle the Zimbabwe-Mozambique border, and are situated some 10 km south east of Mutare. The Bvumba rise to Castle Beacon at 1,911 metres, and are, together with the Chimanimani and Nyanga part of the Eastern Highlands of the Manicaland. They are referred to as the 'Mountains of the Mist' (Bvumba being the Shona word for 'mist'), as so often the early morning starts with a mist which clears by mid-morning. They are capped by cool, green hills which shelter country hotels, a casino and golf course at the Leopard Rock Hotel and a Botanical Garden with one of the best views in Africa. The mountains are also known for their coffee plantations and hiking options.
Getting around
Although there is a small airport located outside Mutare, Harare International Airport is the main port of entry. Bvumba is approximately a 3.5hr drive from Harare. While there are public transport options from Mutare to Bvumba, the easiest way to take in the sites is by private car. Transport to the cottage is by a paved road, with the final 100m on a dirt road.
