We had great family time at Sunset Villa. Beautiful views & private/safe property.
Our crew was 3 families: One couple, a second couple with a 7-year old, & a third couple with 3 & 5 year olds.
The set-up of the property is pretty dis-jointed. It’s made up of the main house (2 bedrooms – 1 with a king and 1 with two twins), a bungalow (bed/bath detached from house), the casita (bed/bath/living room/kitchen detached from house), and then two satellite beds/baths located over the garages. Aside from the 2 bedrooms in the main house, there wasn’t another great setup for parents/kids to have their own bedrooms & still be close to each other. For our crew, we pushed the two twins together & all 3 kids shared that room, so that there was one set of parents close by across the hall. The other two couples were in the bungalow & the casita. We, thankfully, did not need either of the two bed/baths over the garages. One of them smelled so musty we couldn’t breathe & the other didn’t smell great either. There’s a beautiful sunset rooftop over the 1 that didn’t smell as bad. All bedrooms were spacious w/king beds (minus the two twins), & all had private/en-suite bathrooms!
The pool was great – we swam even in the rain. It’s deep, take caution with kiddos. The jacuzzi is not heated but was nice for the smaller kiddos.
The property needs some basic TLC. For example, the kitchen had a very loose faucet handle – something that could easily be tightened down in between renters. Safety-wise, the pictures show handrails down to the beach. In person, you can see where handrails used to be, but the lower half of the stairs no longer have handrails. One of the kids tripped going down the stairs, and rolled a number of stairs before being able to stop. Fortunately came away with just a scrape on the leg, but the fall could’ve been worse & could’ve been prevented with handrails in place. In addition, the stairs are in need of pressure-washing. In dry weather, they’re manageable, however if they’re wet for any reason, they are very slippery. We counted them one day-there are close to 200 stairs. We knew there were a lot, so that wasn’t an issue, but they need safety measures in place.
I realize this is the first non-5 star review, so don’t take this submission lightly. Some of our group feels that 4 stars is generous. What we agreed on is that it used to be a 5-star place, but has not been maintained properly. A little TLC & it could be back to 5-stars.
