About the neighbourhood
Originally, Barmouth was a tiny hamlet built almost entirely on the rock over-looking the river mouth and frequented by pirates. The sea receded, access improved and a small fishing and ship building industry grew. In the 19th. Century the railway came and Barmouth and almost immediately it embraced tourism and expanded.

Situated on the edge of the Snowdonia national, Barmouth was awarded the Green Coastline award for its clean beach environment and water. There is a great selection of shops eateries and pubs. The mountains for roaming are very close, plus numerous lakes and rivers close by. If you prefer a guided walk the annual walking festival at Barmouth held in September is popular every year.
