1 Mill Street has been recently renovated, it’s tasteful and modern. The beds are very comfortable, the showers decent for both space and water pressure, the rooms are tight, but ample, one has a large bathroom and the other plenty of room at the bottom of the bed for getting dressed. There were 4 adults sharing and it was absolutely fine, though I definitely wouldn’t want to be preparing more than simple snacks, the kitchen is well equipped, but small and shares the living area. That said, Crickhowell is overflowing with great places to eat, so it was never a plan to eat in the house. Emma and Mel (who was exceptionally helpful and friendly when we had an issue) had left a welcome hamper of treats, fresh milk, eggs, butter, jam etc. There was plenty of tea, instant coffee, sugar, condiments and olive oil, so if you did want to do breakfast or cook, it’s well equipped for that. Lots and lots of fresh, good quality towels available. Only thing we had an issue with at the house that I feel needs mentioning is, our dog ran away when the fire alarm went off (not our fault), we thought the garden was secure, we hadn’t arrived much before this happened, but on closer inspection, there are gaps in the hedge, she has never ran off before and we were so busy with the alarm, we assumed she had only run into the garden. She was found on the very busy main road near the property. I mentioned it because we are very careful with our dogs, but missed this as an issue and wouldn’t want anyone else to have that stress. If I could pick up the house and put it in a quieter location, I’d have no hesitation in staying at the house again. Ignore the comments about parking, neighbours were very accommodating and helpful with parking advice, one even insisted our friend park in her drive, the same lady helped us find our dog, the people who own the local shop found her on the road and kept her safe. We found everyone in Crickhowell friendly and helpful, The Bear, The Dragon (we thought best food), Latté Dhá, The Britannia and Bridge End were all very good, though we didn’t eat in the last two, they had excellent beer gardens to enjoy the sun, all the hotels allowed dogs. We just found the main road very noisy, we weren’t getting up early to walk or do much at all really, if you are, it probably won’t bother you. The weather was very warm and we had windows open all over the house, which wouldn’t have helped things. We only had 3 nights in the area, a weekend, which considering the great weather, probably meant it was busier and noisier than perhaps is usual. A lovely house in a lovely part of the world. It is on 3 levels, as the description states, the freezer and washing machine are on the ground floor, where the side door is. The middle floor has the kitchen and living area and entrance down external, steep steps to the garden, then up again to the other bedroom. It’s a bit of a climb up to the main road and onwards to the High street. Take a torch or your phone flashlight for walking through the church yard shortcut, as it’s not lit. No issue for fit walkers, definitely not for anyone not particularly fit though, although I think that’s advised by the owners anyway.
