If you are looking for a comfortable, large house in a central location, it would be difficult to find something better. Between the 8th and 15th September we rented this beautiful house, with loads of character and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Inside this spacious house is a well equipped kitchen, with several coffee machines, comfortable lounges with everything you would need as well as spacious and airy bedrooms. There is a large pool table and an extra games room, stocked with a vast array of board games if needed.
From the magnificient frontage you couldn't imagine what was at the rear of the building, which has a superb and very large, safe and secluded garden, which would be fantastic for children to run around in and explore. We had several meals outside under the shade of the many mature trees. There is a decent sized swimming pool and covered area, with comfortable sun loungers, and there is a gardener, who lives in a cottage in the grounds. You'd hardly know he was there.
One of the great advantages of this property is its close proximity to the centre of the town, a ten minute stroll, but far enough away so that you wouldn't know you were so close. Although you wouldn't need as car to explore Blaye you would need one if you wanted to explore the outer towns, like St Emillion, particularly as taxis aren't plentiful.
Blaye itself is a very delightful town with its twice weekly market and Citadel. Several good restaurants, a post office and other amenities. Bordeaux is a must visit and from Blaye I would recommend driving to Saint-Andre-de-Cubzac, parking your car, which is free, and jump on the train to St Jean in Bordeaux. The trains are puctual, clean and relatively cheap compared to the UK. Four adults return for about €25 AND FREE PARKING!!
The proprietor of the house, Monsieur de Lagarde, is very kind and accommodating and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this property. We are already planning a return visit.
