About the neighbourhood
The local area: St Evroult Notre Dame du Bois is a charming village on the edge of a forest in the heart of the Orne, Normandy. It has a large boating lake with pedalo hire, tennis courts, ancient Abbey ruins, inflatables and mini-golf, as well as two excellent restaurants, one offering lovely lake views. The shop in the village sells most things and features a traditional boulangerie. Nearby Ferte Fresnel has a range of shops, a bank, chemist, garage and excellent restaurant and located midway between the towns of L'Aigle and Gace, these towns offer a wealth of shops and amenties including a leisure centre, bowling, swimming pool and slides.
In 1998 Luc Besson shot scenes for Joan of Arc in the village using the atmospheric abbey ruins
How to get there
Exit A28 autoroute at Gacé, go past gacé church and head out towards Rouen then turn right as you leave town, climbing a hill, signposted l'aigle. Continue for about 10 mins, passing through the villages of la Trinitie des laitiers and Touquettes. On leaving Touquettes you climb a hill with a sharp right bend at the top, the house is immediately on the left as you come round the corner so slow down carefully as you approach - there's room for two cars to pull in easily with the gate closed.
