Isaac's Byre has 3 bedrooms and 3 bath/shower rooms, including a ground floor bedroom and bathroom. The ground floor room can be set up as a twin or super king to suit your needs. The main room in the cottage is open plan and includes a fully equipped kitchen with range cooker, fridge freezer and dishwasher, the lounge area with wood burning stove and dining table and chairs. As it is open plan it means the cook can take part in the conversation and is not stuck in a kitchen preparing meals alone . There are two comfy sofas and an armchair. There are three bath/shower rooms. The main family bathroom, with bath and shower over, is on the ground floor. The French doors give gorgeous views of the countryside: a perfect place to sit and relax. There is also a cupboard full of games and puzzles should you just want to spend time together in front of the cosy wood burning stove. We also supply a dvd player, ipod dock and extra blankets and rugs to make your stay as cosy as possible. From the French doors you can watch the changing colours of the fells around the South Tyne valley as the sun and weather changes. You may also see wildlife from the doors, pheasants are regular visitors, plus finches, curlews and lapwings fly above in spring and swallows in summer. Occasionally you may hear a lark or a cuckoo plus many owls.We love to watch the hares 'boxing' in the field behind the cottage or the lambs playing in the springtime. The view is always changing. The house is only 1 mile (by road ) away from the lovely village of Garrigill: (It is 1/4 mile on foot down steep footpath). Garrigill has a Post Office/general store, plant nursery, artists studio and pub. Alston, England's highest market town is 4 miles away. It contains many pubs and places to eat, exceptional whole food shop which specialises in local cheeses and there are also craft and art studios and gift shops. Alston is home to England's highest golf course, South Tynedale steam railway, outdoor centre who can provide activities, transport museum, craft workshops, antique and gift shops. It has many quirky cobbled lanes to explore off the main cobbled street. Alston has featured in many films and TV series including Oliver Twist. On the doorstep are country walks where you can see lots of wildlife, huge skies, heather covered fells, waterfalls and rare wild flowers while taking in the clean air of the North Pennines. Set in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Isaac's Byre is a perfect place from which you can take part in many outdoor activities. We recommend Ashgill Force, a waterfall you can walk behind, walking distance from the cottage.. This is an ideal cottage for families and friends. For children we have a variety of toys and games which can be put in the cottage for your arrival. Babies and toddlers are welcome and we have high chairs and cots so that two or more couples with babies can be accommodated. We welcome two well behaved dogs. And can also provide crates on request. We also provide towels and water bowl for your pups. Just inside the front door is a drying/boot room with tumble dryer, electric airer and coat and boot racks, perfect for your muddy boots or paws after a walk. The cottage is insulated to a high standard and so is lovely and cosy. There is a large wood burning stove and a complimentary supply of logs to keep you extra cosy in the evenings. We provide all fuel, linen and towels. For the adventurous there are numerous cycle routes close by, either off road or following winding country roads. Cycle hire is available 3 miles away and we provide secure cycle storage Further afield are the award Killhope lead mining museum, Settle-Carlisle historic railway, Hadrian's wall, Lake District, Durham, Northumberland national park and Gretna Green. Interaction with guests
We will welcome you on arrival and are just next door if you need us but also can be as unobtrusive as you like. As we live locally we can recommend walks, places to eat and things to do. Next door are pet pigs, sheep, ducks and hens. We also have hens behind the cottage so you may be able to buy extra fresh eggs from us depending on the season. We can be as unobtrusive or as helpful as you wish.

We stayed here for two weeks in March 2019. The facilities were great and we really enjoyed our stay. We have an electric car (40 KW) and had no problems getting around thanks to the on site charging (Type 2 connector).

About the neighbourhood
Nearby is a Post Office/general store. Alston has a wide range of shops and places to eat and a steam railway. The town also has an award winning bakery and wholefood shop (with gorgeous cheeses) and Hub museum. Further afield are Killhope lead mining museum, Settle-Carlisle historic railway, Hadrian's wall, Long Meg stone circle, Lacey's caves and lots more. The local area has the Pennine Way (1/4 mile away), C2C cycle way (1/4 mile away), lots of local walks (Ashgill waterfall is just 1.5 miles) and mountain bike routes. After the walk to Ashgill force we recommend the walk from Bowlees via Low Force to High Force water fall and a visit to the cafe and waterfall at Bowlees. Nearby is also a walk from Cowgreen reservoir to Cauldron Snout
Getting around
There are lots of things to see and do within walking distance or on cycling routes, e.g. Ashgill Force or the source of the Tyne. There are lots of circular walks right from the door. To see things further afield you really need a car or a lift to public transport in Alston or Nenthead. There are buses to carlisle, Haltwhistle and Hexham throughout the year and buses to Keswick in the summer months.
