Banklands is a typical Lakeland cottage built in the late 1800's accommodating 6 people, in the heart of Eskdale, set amidst 3 acres of private fields and woodlands. Banklands has a large peaceful garden visited by local wildlife (including Red Squirrels) and there are extensive views of the Eskdale valley from the cottage including the steam railway. The recent renovation has retained many period features including the original staircase, wonderful stained glass and original fire places. While also updating the property with modern features such as underfloor heating throughout the downstairs. There is fantastic handmade country kitchen, with a range cooker, a large dining area where you can enjoy the wood burner and the stunning views of the Eskdale valley. The rustic sitting room is warm and cosy with two sofas and additional seating it also has its own wood burner again taking advantage of the amazing views, having windows on all three sides. There are three good sized bedrooms at Banklands and a bathroom with luxurious underfloor heating, a roll top bath and separate large corner shower. The boot room is a essential part of the cottage with plenty of room for drying clothes on those wet days, outside is a dog wash area with a heated hosepipe. There is plenty of room for parking with a large car park in the grounds approximately 100 meters from the cottage, A trolley for luggage is provided. Eskdale is a tranquil valley, virtually untouched by modern development. and its main attraction is the walking, you can leave from the cottage onto the high fells such as Scafell or stroll along the the River Esk up to Boot or to the coastal estuary of Ravenglass. Banklands also overlooks the Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway with, The Green station just a two minute walk away, where you can spend the day on the steam train which takes you through the valley to the sea. There are five pubs in the valley, the nearest being the King George IV, just a short walk down the road. Children are welcome and it serves real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop is close by and sells a comprehensive range of groceries and local produce.More

You can bank on banklands for a brilliant holidays

About the neighbourhood

There are two villages in the valley. The hamlet of Boot has one of the few remaining working water mills in the country, dating back to 1578 and open to visitors, with a museum. Fold End Gallery exhibits and sells art and crafts. There is also the Eskdale Corn Mill which is worth a visit, it has two water wheels (very unusual in Britain) which power the grinding stones. The other village is Eskdale Green, where you can visit the Discover Eskdale centre in St Bega's Church, which looks at the life, times and landscape of the valley through the ages, stock up on provisions from the village shop or take a walk through the exotic Japanese Gardens, created at the end of the 19th century for Lord Rea, a Liverpool coal and shipping magnate who lived in the nearby Gatehouse , now owned by the Ou...
