Gayle, North Yorkshire, England
Our cottage with its thick solid stone walls is very cosy both in winter with a welcoming coal fire and in summer. Wensleydale is an excellent centre for walking and touring. Nearby is Gayle Mill, a historic and operational sawmill, and Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre famous for its cheese. A pretty stream with waterfalls runs close by.

Ideally situated for great walking and short distance into Hawes for pubs and restaurants. Cream tea at the Wensleydale Creamery a must. Cottage had everything we needed for a cosy evening in as well with all you need to get a good old fashioned roaring fire going! The two walks we did were relatively easy going for all ages, the...

Gayle Farm was in a perfect location for our walking holiday. The cottage had been well prepared and there was a welcome tray waiting for us. Vivien, the owner was good at answering any questions before our visit and sent very clear directions to make the property easy to find. The beds were comfy and the linen all fresh. Plenty...

Gayle is about 20 minutes drive from Garsdale station, on the Settle-Carlisle line. There are about 6 trains per day to Carlisle and the same number to Leeds, calling at several interesting places on the way, like Appleby or Skipton. You buy your ticket on board the train, have a leisurely ride, and avoid the parking problems in the towns. There is also a Little White Bus which takes you to and from Garsdale Station from the bus shelter along Gayle Lane, which is useful if you don't have a car.
