It has a large utility area, which can be used for dogs or for storing diving gear / bicycles etc. Well-behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement but, for the benefit of other guests, are not permitted upstairs or on downstairs furniture. There is a secure garden which has glorious flowers for most of the year and ample parking (a luxury in Brixham) for two cars, with further parking / boat parking available on request. It has a downstairs toilet, and is a level walk into town (again a luxury in Brixham) or the nearby bus stop, so is suitable for people with some mobility restrictions. The main double bedroom has sea views across Torbay towards Torquay - even from its walk-in wardrobe! There is a twin bedroom next door and a travel cot and high chair are available on request. There is a door at the bottom of the stairs to limit adventurous toddlers during the day. The newly renovated bathroom has a bath, with over-bath power shower and glass shower screen, plus a huge touch-sensitive mirror with day/ white light options. Sealark Cottage is on the South West Coastal Path, and is a short walk to Berry Head Country Park - an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its Napoleonic Fort, Converted Guardhouse Tea Rooms, breeding ground for guillemots (the Brixham Penguin), and unusual lighthouse - the highest, shortest and deepest in Britain. It is a great place to walk the dog or just get a breath of fresh air. On the way is Berry Head Hotel with bar and restaurant, spectacular views, and indoor heated pool that non-residents can use. There is also a range of entertainment there from Jazz nights to a boules court. In front of Sealark Cottage, just above the seawater pool is Shoals Restaurant, where you can pop in for an ice cream, chips or coffee, or stay longer for amazing freshly-caught fish. If you walk towards town, you pass the pebbly beach at the Breakwater (ideal for skimming stones) and Breakwater Bistro which does good value food with fantastic views. Pass the Marina, a number of specialist shops (including ice cream shop!), Prince William bar and Restaurant and the heritage fishing fleet. Brixham itself is a picturesque historical fishing village, where William of Orange landed in 1688, and boasts a variety of award-winning restaurants and attractions, from Brixham museum at Bolton Cross, to its fish market, to cocktail bars. However active you want to be, there is something to suit everyone nearby - from various water sports eg diving, boating, water-skiing, paddle-boarding; to bowls and golf, from lazing on a beach at Broadsands or by the open-air pool at Shoalstone, to having fish and chips or an ice cream and watching the world go by! Regular ferries (or buses) are available to Paignton, Torquay and Dartmouth, with cruises to see wildlife, the geopark or go fishing. Take the steam train to Kingswear, visit Agatha Christie's Greenway House and National Trust's Coleton Fishacre or just relax and enjoy yourself! If you wish to travel further afield, Dartmoor, Exeter and Plymouth are all just under an hour away, and Cornwall with more amazing beaches and Eden Project just beyond. Interaction with guestsNormally, we will arrange to give you the keys and, if you want, give a tour of the house including where things can be found, suggest places to visit and are contactable throughout your stay to answer any queries. There are many tourist information leaflets, an information booklet with handy hints and a guest book which includes recommendations from other guests. With COVID, keys are left in a key-safe and the guest book has been removed, but advice and information is available from the Heard family, or in leaflets that are changed every week.

Excellent location - poor accommodation, rotten window, dirty and holed carpet, Broken window panes, old furniture, electric fires not working, paper peeling off wall, grubby extension leads on bedroom floor. Accommodation in need of improvement.

I have only just seen this review and am sorry that you did not raise any of the issues with us at the time of your stay. You will be glad to know that the replacement window frame had been made to order before your stay, to be installed in the next void period. We do not have many voids so have a rolling programme of upgrades each year. The bathroom was fully renovated in 2020 and the living room furniture replaced last year. I agree that the extension block is stained, so have ordered a replacement. I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay, most reviews are very positive and most of our business is repeat bookings from people who come year after year. Thank you

This is the first time we have stayed at Sealark cottage and can’t wait to return! We were blown away with the location and spent many wonderful hours sitting on the decking until the sun went down. The cottage is exactly as the pictures show and as described. The utility area was fantastic for my husband and son to store their kayak and fishing equipment and plenty of room to park our car too. The owners were really helpful and friendly . Thank you for a lovely stay!

Had a wonderful 5 nights stay in February. Perfect location, easy stroll into town only 15 minutes away. Amazing views from patio. Kitchen well appointed, dogs very comfortable in their utility area (although we were surprised as a dog friendly cottage they were not allowed inside at all - didn’t bother us really as we were out all day!). Spotlessly clean. Owners were very welcoming and communication was brilliant before, during and after. Decor and furniture rather dated, but we didn’t book for that! Highly recommended and we would love to do a revisit sometime. Very convenient compared to lots of Brixham properties for accessibility into the town. Many thanks Katy for a wonderful stay.

Sorry for delay in responding- just discovered your review. So glad that you had a great holiday at Sealark Cottage, and we have clarified our guidance to request that dogs stay downstairs and are not allowed on the furniture. The house does have stunning views, plenty of parking and a level walk to the bus stop or one slope on the way to town. We look forward to you visiting us again. Thank you.

Absolutely stunning views across Torbay from rear of cottage. Brilliant walks from the door. Berry Head area amazing. Coast path in both directions easily accessed. The walk into Brixham flat and easy. Just 10 minutes to restaurants. Seals and porpoise in the bay. Cottage comfortable and very good for drying off wet gear - which unfortunately we had every day. Would have loved to use garden and outdoor swimming pool at a better time of year. Many thanks to Tony for greeting us and making us very welcome

Phenomenal! Spectacular sea views we saw the seals as we were washing the pots out of the kitchen window! Waking up to a sea view is wonderful. The cottage is cosy, clean and the beds are comfy. The gate at the bottom of the garden takes you straight into the car park of the Shoalstone Outdoor Pool which was a lovely cafe and to the right there is an area of the rocks you can sit on as the tide goes out the kids loved this! The cottage is next to the Berry Head Hotel which does a lovely afternoon tea. If you have mobility issues you can take the path at the front of the house to Brixham town to avoid the steps as you can walk along the costal path. Five minute walk to Breakwater Beach where we spent most our time watching the seals and the cafe called the Breakwater Bistro serves the most amazing food. We did lots of crabbing with the kids which again only a 15 minute walk away in beautiful Brixham Marina. Thank you Katy and Tony for a wonderful stay we will definitely be booking again!

My simple advice to anyone looking at this Cottage to potentially book is if you decide not to it’s a huge mistake, you will not find a more peaceful, comfortable, easy and convenient located Cottage with simply the most stunning and far reaching views that both night and day that can basically be all you need to just pass the time observing. We arrived late evening in the dark so it was only when we woke the next morning we realised what a stunning week we were going to have. The bedroom window looks directly out into the bay accross to Torquay, unspoilt views in every direction, we sat in bed just looking at a panoramic view only to be given a display from a group of Porpoises as they went on their way. Next the 1 minute walk to the seafront and we were confronted with the Seals, we were greeted by them every evening of our stay in the Cottage it was just a fantastic thing and you can get within 5-10 mtrs of them as the hunt around the shoreline rocks, fantastic. The simple walk into the town is easy with excellent sea food as you’d expect in a fish market town, plenty of quality alternatives as well. The walking around Berry Head etc with stunning views from cliff top to hidden coves also stunning. The owners Katy and Tony could not of been more hospitable, Katy was extremely professional in all correspondence and Tony was simply fantastic to have to hand for answers to our questions and also his local knowledge was wonderful to take on board during our discussions so thank you both so much, your property and yourselves are a credit to Brixham, a place I hold fond memories of having holidayed there as a child. We will most definitely be staying again and I’d say again to anyone and everyone, book, you will not be disappointed.

This Cottage is situated in a lovely location within 15 minutes of the busy harbour of Brixham. The cottage has superb views towards Torquay and a local salt water swimming pool. Other attractions also include the lovely Berryhead Hotel, which provides: Fine dinning, Indoor Plunge Pool & Steam Room Facilities and a spectacular garden terrace. An excellent choice for the all year round traveller, Kind regards Nigel P

What a fabulous holiday we've just had, made extra special by the weather - we have been so lucky. Spent a great deal of our time sat out on the decking with amazing sea views & the lido a couple if minutes away. Lovely welcome from the owners of Sealark Cottage, which has everything you need for a relaxing break and which we found to be very comfortable. If you want to eat out just take the short stroll either to the Berry Head Hotel one way or to the harbour in the other direction. Brixham is steeped in history and full of interesting tales. We will be going back next year. Thank you Katy and Tony for sharing this amazing place xx

Great sea views across the bay from the property. Lovely walks on the sea-front. Central heating made this spacious place cosy even in January. Wifi is a plus. Friendly communication & co-operation from the owner. People in the area also friendly. We plan to stay again. Thank you!

I'm really pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Sealark Cottage - it is one of the few properties in Brixham with a level walk along the sea-front into town. We can't always guarantee the weather, but we can always guarantee a warm and friendly welcome.

Conveniently located close to Berry Head this cottage is also within 5/10 mins walking distance to Brixham harbour which has a good choice of pubs and restaurants (we particularly liked the Rockfish restaurant). Also a short drive to places like Totnes and Dartmouth and close to some very good National Trust properties including Agatha Christie's holiday home and the D'oyly Carte family home. It has stunning sea views across to Torquay. The owners are friendly and very helpful. Being a grade 2 listed cottage it has a lot of original features and the decoration reflects the cottage feel to the property. Central heating works well as the weather went very cold during our stay. Excellent value for money

Thanks Haydn for the perfect review, and so glad that you enjoyed your stay. There is plenty to see and do from the cottage, whether people have a car or not, and yes the central heating makes all the difference when there is a strong easterly wind or even the snow which we had for the first time in my memory in this part of Brixham!

Getting around
Being on the level, the easiest way to see the sights of Brixham from Sealark Cottage is to walk. However the local bus stops a short distance down the road taking you direct to Brixham town centre at approx quarter to every hour, and via a slightly longer route at quarter past every hour. It does a circular route so you can just sit on the bus and tour Brixham. Stagecoach do a variety of tickets eg dayrider which covers most of the local buses. Additional buses run on the summer. In the Town Centre are buses which connect to most tourist attractions across the Bay, and further afield eg Plymouth, but most holiday makers will take the ferry to Paignton, Torquay or Dartmouth to give a more relaxed viewpoint.
