Esmé's Cottage is located just 50 metres from the original Ivy Bridge, a 13th Century stone-built construction which crosses the River Erme in the old part of Ivybridge's town centre. The bridge is still in use today. Of 'hump-back' design and originally used by both riders and pack horses, it is the subject of the 1813 painting by Turner entitled 'Ivy Bridge'. The Cottage is one of 6 in a row of terraced cottages which were built approximately 170 years ago. Originally of single story thatched design, the cottages have been extended over the years, and the thatch has been replaced with more functional slate tiles. On entering from the street, the Cottage comprises a main living room and large kitchen/diner downstairs. Upstairs there are 3 pretty bedrooms and a toilet/bathroom with bat...Esmé's Cottage is located just 50 metres from the original Ivy Bridge, a 13th Century stone-built construction which crosses the River Erme in the old part of Ivybridge's town centre. On entering from the street, the Cottage comprises a main living room and large kitchen/diner downstairs. Upstairs there are 3 pretty bedrooms and a toilet/bathroom with bath and shower. The property is carpeted throughout, except for the blue-pebble bathroom floor, and the kitchen which is floored in blue-grey slate. The accommodation, which is centrally heated and benefits from modern sealed unit double-glazing, comfortably sleeps up to 5 + baby. We consider this to be an appropriate number of guests for the size of the property and the available facilities. Guests also have access to a small, private south-facing patio and rockery garden to the rear of the property. Outdoor table & chairs, parasol and lounger are provided. Well located cottage that was perfect for our stay. Friendly cat from one of the neighbouring gardens made it even more pleasant! Bedrooms were all decent sized, as was the kitchen and lounge. Only drawback was the parking - it's restricted outside of the property...More

Lawrence, Thanks for the review, and I’m glad you enjoyed the cottage. The flexible parking restrictions are put in place by the local authority to encourage shoppers into town. As we are only 150m or so from the top of the High Street, it’s just...More

About the neighbourhood
Ivybridge itself is a commercial town and is active all year round. A short drive in any direction from the town leads to a wealth of interest, amenities and natural beauty, regardless of weather conditions or time of year. Unfortunately this cannot be said of other towns in the region which can be prone to traffic gridlock during busy periods. The town lies on the southern edge of Dartmoor - in fact you can walk on to Dartmoor by taking the Viaduct walk from Esmé's Cottage, giving you access to 368 square miles of moorland walking - and the South Hams beaches of Slapton, Thurlestone, Bigbury, Wonwell, Hope Cove, etc, etc can be easily reached by driving for 20 minutes or so across the rolling hills of the County.
How to get there
M4 from London, M5 from Birmingham to Exeter, then A38 towards Plymouth. It's an easy journey. Ivybridge has two exits off the A38, before you reach Plymouth.
