Merchant's House is a spectacular period property with incredible sea views. Situated at the Esplanade where the Dreel burn flows into the Firth of Forth, it undoubtedly has some of the best views of the picturesque town of Anstruther. Accommodating up to seven guests, Merchant's House is a listed building, retaining many original Georgian features. It has large and bright rooms, many with dual aspect views, open fireplaces and high quality furnishings throughout. Open up the original wooden shutters to enjoy views across the bay from the window seat or enjoy morning coffee at the kitchen island. The range cooker and well equipped kitchen ensure you'll have all you need to cook with, and with an abundance of fresh produce available locally, you'll be spoilt for choice for ingredients and inspiration! A wide staircase leads from the dining room to the upper level, with a useful utility room and access to the rear garden at mid level. The private garden has seating to allow you to make the most of the sun all day long. The lounge is located on the first floor. A large, comfortable sofa coupled with elegant armchairs offer the perfect place to relax, with an open fire for the cooler nights. As it is at the corner of the building, there are several windows offering amazing views across the Dreel burn, over to the shore front and out across the sea. The master bedroom, which also enjoys dual aspect views, is also on the first floor. The adjoining shower room can be accessed from the master bedroom as well as from the corridor. A further staircase leads up to the second floor where you will find the family room with a double bed and single bed and the further double room. Pets welcome by prior arrangement- £15 fee applies and is payable at the property. Dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms or on the furniture and garden must be kept foul free at all times. As a listed and protected building, guests must report any damage immediately Strictly no parties/events. Nothing must be pinned or taped to the walls. Occupancy must not exceed that on the booking form

We had booked this house, but a tightening of Covid restrictions put paid to our chance to stay there. Both the manager and Holiday Lettings dealt with this change professionally, letting me know promptly about the change. A refund was offered, I accepted, and my money returned in full within a few days. Disappointed not to be able to stay there, but impressed with the service provided.

About the neighbourhood
The East Neuk is a string of fishing villages connected by the coastal path. A long time favourite with families, keen walkers and golfers it offers something for everyone. The laid back lifestyle and gentle pace of life makes it a super choice for a relaxing and quiet stay by the sea. There is a range of cafes, bistros, bars, restaurants and fine dining restaurants throughout the East Neuk. The area and many of its facilities and visitor attractions are dog friendly. There is a vibrant arts community with festivals and pop up galleries as well as a lively music scene. Local producers are stocked and celebrated by independent and artisan shops and local farmer and food & drinks markets.
Getting around
There is an hourly bus service in both directions. There are well maintained footpaths, the coastal path and some multi use paths in the area. A car is not necessary but is advised for those wishing to explore further afield.
