Situated on what were originally landscaped as botanical gardens, the guest-house is surrounded by 9.25 acres of lush tropical grounds with flowers (orchids, ginger blossoms, magnolias, plumerias etc.), fruit trees, rare plants and trees. Hawaii's largest Banyan tree and Elephant Ear trees are dwarfing the house and lawn.<BR>The location is central <BR><BR>Located on the east side of the Big Island, the Estate is central to all the attractions and convenient to shopping, as it sits right behind the Keaau Shopping Center and the Keaau farmers market.It is very convenient to Hilo, its shopping centers, downtown shops and the Hilo farmers market, as well as Volcano National Park, the snowy summit of Mauna Kea and its observatories, Onizuka Center for International Astronomy, black sand beaches, botanical gardens, waterfalls, and hiking trails.<BR>It is not far from Hilo downtown (7 minutes), Rainbow falls(10 minutes), Hilo beaches (10 minutes);<BR>The distance to the historical village of Pahoa and Kapoho area with it's wonderful snorkeling spots, black sand beaches, warm water ponds, excursions to the lava flows, is 30 to 40 minutes;<BR>To Hawaii Volcanoes National Park it is 30 minutes, to the snowy summits of Mauna Kea and its observatories about one hour.<BR><BR>The estate is also ideal for those who just need peace and quiet and want to enjoy absolute privacy and just take walks through the beautiful landscaped and jungle areas of this 9,5 acre property like in the mango forest with the remains of its ancient heiau or under the huge Banyan tree.<BR><BR>For those who love hiking, visit one of the nearby gems of Puna, Ha'ena Beach, with its beautiful soft white and black sands, its turtles, and watch the humpback whales from January to March. <BR><BR><BR>The Main House, nineteenth century Queen Anne architecture, dates back to 1898 and has been used in many photography sessions for movies, recordings, magazines, books and commercials.<BR><BR>After the plantation sold it in the early 1980, the property fell in disrepair until the present owners acquired it and worked for several years to restore it to its original beauty.<BR><BR><BR><BR><BR>It is surrounded by a tropical garden of about ten acres, with luscious exotic plants and fruit trees, and is an oasis of peace and beauty. Nicely appointed kitchen for cooking while on the Island! Great location for visiting Volcano National Park, Hilo area botanical gardens and beaches! Crossed Saddle Road to the Kona side in a couple of hours! Thanks, Gissele

The Hilo side of The Big Island is not the resort and beach side of Hawaii - but it is by far the most beautiful. And there is no better way to experience it than to stay in this 100 year old Plantation Managers house...More

How to get there
Coming from the Hilo Airport drive all the way through to the big intersection with Hwy 11 (Kanoelehua Ave).<BR>Turn left onto Hwy 11 towards Keaau/Pahoa.<BR>After about 4 miles you arrive at the first intersection to Keaau and Pahoa (bypass road). Skip it and turn left at the second intersection. You are on Keaau-Pahoa Rd between the shopping center and the local market. One mile down the road is the property to your right with the gate next to the barricade.<BR>Should you be on the bypass road instead, turn to your right at the second traffic lights around the school, and you will see the house and the gate.<BR> If you get disoriented, do not leave the school area.<BR>
