Douglas Fir Cottage is a luxurious and spacious two bedroom self-catering cottage in the heart of the Caringorms National Park near Aviemore. The kitchen is well equipped with hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and all of the equipment needed to self cater in comfort (e.g. blender, cafetiere, small thermos flask and knife sharpener). The bedrooms are light and airy with a king-size bed in one room and a twin in the other. The french doors in the living room give access to the walled patio area facing the Lochan where there is a paved area with seating. Guests have access to free fishing in the Lochan, which is stocked with brown & rainbow trout and to buy any fish caught and not put back for £5. There is also a golf practice area, a games room (with a table football table, playstation and various other games), and mountain bikes to borrow on a first come first saved basis. Guests are also free to borrow a BBQ, take ice from the ice machine, or make use of the communal laundry room for a wash or dry at a small cost. The price includes towels and linen, and a large basket of logs for the wood burning stove, but excludes electricity which you pay by honesty box and card meter in your cottage (we make no profit from this charge). The cottage was extensively and sympathetically renovated in late 2017 including: new Hypnos mattress, complete internal re-painting, new/improved lighting, new internal oak doors, new carpets, new curtains, new soft furnishings and pictures and a new fleet of mountain bikes.More

In order to give you the greatest flexibility possible for your arrival we will leave the cottage unlocked ready for you, with the key inside. While we respect some guest’s preference for privacy, we hope to meet all of our guests during the course of their stay and are always available to answer questions or address issues. Guests are welcome to knock on the door to the house or to contact us by phone if we are not on site for any reason.

About the neighbourhood
The cottage is set in a rural location near Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park half a mile off the main A9 Glasgow/Edinburgh-Inverness road. It is a perfect location from which to explore the Cairngorms and numerous local attractions including the Cairngorm Mountain Funicular, Strathspey Steam Railway, Highland Wildlife Park, Highland Folk Museum, Dalwhinnie Distillery, Landmark Forest Adventure Park and House of Bruar. For trips further afield, the A9 provides good access north/south, while the nearby A86 opens up the west, with Fort William only 75 minutes away. For activity enthusiasts the area offers almost unlimited opportunities for walkers, mountain bikers, golfers and water sports enthusiasts.
How to get there
Northbound on the A9: approximately 6 miles past the first Dalwhinnie turn off, on the first stretch of dual carriageway, turn left at the sign for Crubenmore. Southbound on the A9: approximately 3 miles past the last sign for Newtonmore and 1 mile past the Glentruim sign, towards the end of the dual carriage way turn right for Crubenmore/Dalwhinnie. Drive over the railway bridge and turn right down a small private road for approximately ½ mile past two houses on the left and taking a fork to the left.
