I travel a lot and have endured more than my fair share of mundane mid-market business hotels over the years (Crowne Plaza, Hilton, InterContinental, Marriott, Ramada, Sheraton, etc.). I've also stayed at a few miserable places where a can of insecticide was the most sought-after amenity. I feel that these types of forgettable accommodations simply aren't worth the time or effort to review.
While routine business travel has become a chore for me, I still truly enjoy leisure travel with my wife. That said, I'm not easily impressed by highly rated (oftentimes overhyped) resorts or restaurants. Although I'm generally unpretentious, I do have high expectations when it comes to upscale lodging and fine dining.
MY HOTEL RATINGS: 5 Stars is equivalent to an A in school (but there’s a big difference between an A- and a perfect A+ property). 4 Stars is a B (from above average to very, very good). 3 Stars represents a C or average property. 2 Stars is a D, and 1 Star is an F.
